Anyone here landline free?
I may be moving and thinking about going to cable internet and no landline. My concern is microwaves to my head when my only phone is a mobile. I have a bluetooth earpiece which I rarely use. But was wondering if they sell a "wired" earpiece for phones that have the little 5 pin horiziontal plug? Mine is a Motorola Razer(sp?) That way I keep the microwaves from my head when talking.

1. I've been landline-free since 1998.

I actually only know one friend that still uses a land-line.

If microwaves screwed with my head , it's too late to do anything about it now, after almost 10 years .

2. Yeah I have the same phone...
there's an adapter that the guy at the store said should have come with my phone. The wired earpiece is by plantronics (sp?) and cost around $40.

I still have a landline though...

3. how much time do you really spend on the phone?
you need 2-3 hours a day, every day, year after year, to even begin to replicate the damage that phones might have caused in studies.

I haven't paid for a landline, since 1999. don't miss it one bit.

6. I am and I love it
For one thing, I have an actual choice between several providers when it comes to my cell phone: not so for my landline. And did we break up Ma Bell just so that she could re-form a generation later? Well, yes, that may be what happened, but dammed if I'm going to participate with my money.

8. I think you can get phone thru most cable operators nowadays
they usually make a pretty good deal when bundling it with internet.

You could also just use skype for your "landline".

btw, doesn't your cell phone have a mini-stereo jack on it somewhere, in addition to Bluetooth?

9. Actually, no, just the bluetoothjack
I'll go to the phone store to check it out. I'm leaning towards going no landline. I'm not a big phone user btw so this might work for me.

10. No POTS (plain old telephone service) here either
I have a cell phone and use VoIP when at home over my cable modem - it works stunningly well.

12. I have an internet phone myself.
So it's a land line in the sense that it's not a cel phone and it uses a regular phone... but it doesn't go through the phone line. :)

13. Free as of two months ago
It is a pretty good feeling. I never talk on the phone much and I got a plan where I get 1000 minutes a month. Switched to broadband through my cable too.

After looking at what I spent for DSL, long distance service and local phone I have actually reduced my monthly telecommunications bill.

My wife also shares your concern with the microwaves. So when we can (without being rude) we use the speaker phone function. That should help limit the risk.

14. No landline here.
I use Skype for long distance and international calls. I've got a handset that looks like a normal phone, but calls over my broadband connection. Saves me a fortune on international charges and I even have a regular phone number so people can call me. When I'm not in range of broadband, I use my cellphone.

use my cell for phone calls, but still on dial-up over the land line for internet. No phone on it anymore, though. - used to have one for the 6 hours at night the computer wasn't on, but the battery died and I unplugged its base.

every second of it. I had the ringer off on the landline more than I had it on. Too many solicitors calling.

It's more so we can give that # out to anybody I don't want to have my cell #, it gets used maybe once a week.

25. Oh yes, me too!
Easy decision. I get my internet service through my cable Company. Bottom line, it's cheaper this way. And my cell company rolls over unused minutes.

26. The only reason I keep a landline is that I occasionally need a fax machine
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 01:16 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
for my work.

Otherwise, I talk on the phone so little that a cell phone with pay-as-you-go is sufficient for my needs. (I prefer to speak face-to-face or to write a note, not talk on the phone, if I can help it.)

If faxes ever become totally obsolete, the landline is GONE.
