Book question for you...about Huckleberry Finn
My question is about my actual book, not the story. Many moons ago I purchased a copy of Huckleberry Finn from a second hand store because I needed a copy for school and this one had wonderfully yellowed and thick pages and that perfect old book smell. It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized this book has the author listed as Samuel L. Clemens instead of Mark Twain. There isn't a publishing date listed unfortunately. All it says is "The Goldsmith Publishing Company" and "made in the United States of America". The book is illustrated and, aside from a slightly discolored bind, in great condition.

I know there are a few book experts here so I was wondering if I have something special or are there thousands of books just like this? I tried a few casual google searches but I couldn't come up with anything.

Thoughts?

1. There are probably many books just like it,
but if you are into the book for its monetary value, you could probably check into various auction sites...

And if you don't care about the story, what in the hell difference does it make? You are concerned about the monetary value of Huckleberry Finn?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

3. I have no concern about monetary value
like I said, I had the book for years before realizing the differences on the author name. I bought the book because I needed it for high school. I kept it because of the story and it's smell and feel and I've had it for over a decade now. So far it has traveled with me to 3 continents and 8 homes. I've loaned it to 4 friends and plan to read it to my daughter in a few years. Yes I have questions about it, but I love books and the last time I checked, curiosity was a good thing. Right now, it lives in one of the 6 bookshelves I have crammed with the books I adore.

But thanks for your GDish response. I'm sure it brought real value to the conversation some how.

5. Google is usually my friend, but as I said in my post, I haven't found it there yet

and this isn't it either. Thank you for trying though. Mine is green with black and white (well yellow now) illustrations.

Your google search found a book by the same publishing company though so it's probably from around that same year assuming the bidder was correct. The book on your search had less pages on it though with 317 while mine has 412.

On edit:

The book you found was titled Tom Sawyer while mine is titled Huckleberry Finn.

4. It could be a 1930 or 1933 edition

Go down a few paragraphs, or do a search on "goldsmith", and you'll see where the publisher gets mentioned.

Assuming yours has the same pictures that this web page is talking about, this could be your answer; and if so, that paragraph offers that the 1933 edition has an extra drawing of Jim that the other one doesn't.
