3. This is the kind of stuff you find in junk shops... |
|
Junk shops, "antique" stores, book stores around college campuses (they always have the neatest books marked down)...
Here are some of the books collected around the house that are useful..
"The Complete Book of Herbs and Spices" -- Sara Garland "Starting from Seed" -- Brookland Botanic Garden "Square Foot Gardening"
"The Natural Formula Book for Home and Yard" "Basic Country Living Skills" -- Storey "Build it Better Yourself" -- Rodale Press "The Backyard Builder" -- Rodale Press "Home Made Best Made"-- Reader's Digest
"The Scythe Book" -- If you decide that gas powered mowing is overrated ;-) "Farm Machinery" -- Davidson and Chase (a book about 1900's farm machines) "Fences, Gates and Bridges" --George A Martin (I don't own this but I want it)
"Joy of Cooking" -- These tend to be expensive, but it damn near covers everything about food and how to prepare it... bread, soup, booze... its well worth whatever you pay for it, so long as you use it.
FM 21-76 Survival -- You can google that and will be able to get a full copy of the Military's basic Survial manual, not sure if it has the color pictures that the physical copy has. Its like a "big boy" boyscout manual.
FM 5-34 Engineer Field Data -- Can be found complete and free online with a simple google search. A lot of information not terribly useful (unless you believe the movie Red Dawn was a prediction of the future). But if you're looking for the "bearing values (in tons per square foot)" of a particular make up of soil or how to build a sandbag culvert (with pictures) this is where to look.
Hope this helps you gets you somewhere...

Then read "World War Z" to understand why you need the knowledge.

6. World War Z is surprisingly good |
|
I have high hopes for the movie version, as the author actually presents a very well written and thought out story.
Plus, there's zombies.

13. So, you're looking for a post-apocolyptic survivial guide? |
|
As opposed to a "my boat just sank in the ocean" or "my car broke down in the desert" kind of book?
I have "The Book of Survival" someplace, but it deals more with the ocean/desert problem.
