Want to talk gothic horror films?
Edited on Sun Oct-21-07 08:39 PM by darkstar
I'm a sucker for these if well made (and of course, there's lot's of trash as well). But I am usually willing to try those I've never seen, especially this time of year.

It seems most are European. No existing castles in Hollywood, I guess.

One of my favorites is Mario Bava's "Black Sunday" ("La maschera del demonio") from 1960.

1. Horror :headbang:
I can't make the link work x(
I've been collecting horror movies for years but a lot of what I have I just bought because it was cheap but I like cheap horror so it's okay. And I have a lot of zombie movies :headbang:

But I don't have Black Sunday, I'll try to get it!

2. Thanks....
I've got an image and wiki link in my first post now.

I've got a pretty good horror collection too. I especially like European stuff from 60s-70s.

Thanks again, stuntcat

:hi:

4. Black Sunday is awesome!
I like all sorts of Hammer stuff, old Universal stuff, Val Lewton movies (though they're not exactly Gothic fare)... All great stuff. I think you've inspired me to watch one of them tonight. Thanks!

6. Cool...remember the box
but I'm pretty sure I'd recall it if I'd seen it.

I don't know if you seen any Bava movies or if they'd be to your tastes, but as an LD, I'm thinking you'd at least find them interesting. I think he did the most with the least money of anyone in the history of movies. Heavy gel, expressionistic stuff. He did a bunch with in camera trickery, too, along with sliding glass paintings, etc. finally, he was the true LD and cinematographer on most of his movies, and the lead set designer on the majority.

8. My favorite movie genre
I especially love movies that have big old haunted houses (original version of The Haunting, The Changeling), the old Universal movies (Bride of Frankenstein), and anything with Barbara Steele! I have most of her movies on disk. Black Sunday is a classic.

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein used to REALLY scare me when I was little.
