San Diego and Los Angeles County Fire area check in... |
|
Laz and I used to live in Lakeside back in '03, which is now a evacuation area for large animals, and from what I see of the fires that are going on down here in San Diego county, I'm reminded on how the Ceder fire a couple years ago ended up.
We're now living near downtown San Diego, and the smoke from the fires 30 - 50 miles away is strong enough to cause a bit of respiratory distress even here off the ocean - and is thick enough that it seems like San Fransisco ground fog; the sunset is an amazing red/orange. We just had to close up the windows and will have to run the AC, the smoke is so bad. And with humidity down to 5% in some areas of the county, it's very, very scary.
Even though we're safe down here, I'm sending out good thoughts to the DU'ers in East County and up around the Malibu Hills.

over the hills from Malibu. None of the Malibu Canyon fires have reached us. Lots of smoke though. I can also see big clouds of smoke from the Thousand Oaks/Moorpark fire. On edit: Maps here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x7056701

5. Keep your roof damp, and good luck. |

Get ready to evacuate if you need to. I remember in the Ceder fire, the only thing between us and that fire was 4 county blocks and a dry riverbed where CDF set up their fire break for the town of Lakeside. It came within 1/2 miles of us- and it came so fast.
And now, 60 minutes is having a special on forest fires...

Yesterday the Santa Ana winds kicked up all the ash from the Zaca fire.
Walking home from work it was like an ash sandstorm, and when I got home I'd left the window open and the house was coated with black grit. x(

7. I'm on the west side of Ramona |

Pretty smoky out here.
The Witch Creek fire will have to burn down Ramona, the airport where the firefighting planes are based, and the fire station at the base of the mountain to get to us.
We'll probably head up to LA tomorrow, just to get away from the bad air.

It looks as if the fire is following the Cedar Fire path. Good Luck.
