Damn! My 88-year-old mom had to evacuate her home...
...in northern San Diego County (Rancho Bernardo).

Over past years, during other big fires, I was never all that concerned. SoCal fires tend to hit the hills and housing subdivisions in the canyons in those hills. I always figured that, since she was in the middle of a built-up suburban area, she was in no particular danger.

She was awoken at 5 this morning with news that homes were burning down eight blocks away. :scared:

She's currently staying with a neighbor couple at that neighbor's grandkid's home. They figure she'll be there for at least a couple of days. But, when the all-clear sounds...what will she find waiting for her? :-(

1. I'm glad she got out, regnaD
I hope her home is still there when she gets back, but the most important thing is that SHE'S okay.

3. Very true...
...but that house is important to her. Although I never lived there, it was the home she shared with my late father for almost thirty years.

8. The memories will still be there.
Better that she have that, and you, than you having nothing but the memories.

No matter what, things should never matter more than people.

7. Good thoughts coming your way!
My sister just had to evac from Scripps Ranch - all around it's not a good situation at all.

I've been watching a live stream all day from KNSD and the RB area has been hit particularly hard during this fire. I hope your Mom's home is there for her to return to - and that she's safe in her current location.
