I just killed a tiny insect and I feel very bad about it.

It hovered near my face, so instinctively I clutched it out of the air and squeezed it. It fell onto the chair arm and writhed a bit before it died.

It was just a little creature doing what little flying creatures do. And now its short little life was even shorter.

1. If It Makes You Feel Any Better
it probably had a very short life span anyway. So you may just have taken a day or two away. Then again, maybe you should feel even worse about taking the life of a poor critter that only had such a short time on earth.

Hope that helps.

Wonderful to find someone else who feels as guilty about harming insects as I do.

2. That was your guardian angel trying to tell you God loves you.
You're going to hell. I hope you're happy.

3. You know what ?
I hate insects,they disgust me...A lot.

But strangely I can understand what you're saying.

Yeah,sometimes when I kill a fly or a mosquito,

believe it or not I feel some (Small) remorses.

Me!

I know a bit about Biology and other fields of

science...

But insects really...Well I already said that.

They're small,microscopic nervous system but

who knows how sentient or self-aware they are ?

Interesting post Writer.

Thanks.

7. I think that all living things have a spirit...
and there's something in me that feels rather poor about squelching the spirit out of a living thing.

Except for roaches - roaches are evil.

4. He has already re-incarnated into a bigger insect so you don't have to feel bad.
But if you get bit within the next week or so you'll know it is him fulfilling his Karmic duty.

I think that it's incredible that you can think like this. Empathy is not overrated.

6. It takes a long time to get past that instinct.
Realizing that was a little life is important. Most never really do that.

9. heh, am I evil for not caring when I kill bugs?
I mean I don't walk around stomping on bugs just for the hell of it, but eh, I've never really felt very bad, or bad at all, over killing a spider, fly, moth or any other insect that's bugging me.

12. I think about this quite a bit.
Since the floods in August, we had a regular cockroach fiesta in the neighborhood. They came when sewers backed up. So, in recent weeks we've had a cockroach massacre. Most people don't think twice about it, but I've been bothered by the possibility that hundreds, maybe thousands of creatures died because I find them disgusting (and I do). I wish they could be talked into just going back where they came from. But I don't want them living in my basement (or a cupboard in the church), so the good folks from Orkin come with their baits and drops and sprays.

And I feel guilty.

And Then there's the trauma of someone killing my yard snake...

It would be easier to just not care. But I can't seem to do that.

So, you're not alone.

13. my goodhearted mycritters2...
...have you ever tried negotiating with a cockroach? They insist on continually talking over you, and are adamant about their position.

Damn frustrating, actually...

*sigh*. So, I began shock and awe. But I still feel bad about it.

15. Ya' know...
despite my flippant comments on this thread, I still feel bad about killing just about anything...except mosquitos...I haven't managed to find much empathy for them yet...
