I am so damn mad at aol
I could spit nails!

I spent 2 hours yesterday trying to get through to a warm body!

Every number that I tried indicated that I must have a " account number" in order to talk to some body,

I don't have a damn account and I don't ever want one!

I got a call the other day that was automated ~ the automated voice said my name and asked me to update my credit card.

Since I have no account with them, I got busy trying to call them back.

I finally talked to two warm bodies ~ when I asked if they were in America, found out they were in India.

I lost it!

They didn't have a clue and gave me another wrong number to call.

Finally, someone gave me the correct number to the FRAUD Department but they were closed for the day.

Something is seriously wrong with that company!

1. You Brought Back Fond Memories Of My AOL Days
Only had it because other family members did. When they falsely accused me of spamming (funny how it only happened to those of us who posted anti * messages) I tried to cancel my account and spent 4 hours on the phone talking to folks (in India) attempting to do so.

When I checked my account the next month (auto check deduction), I found 2 billings to them. Not only did they not cancel the account, but apparently they had been double billing me (though weeks apart) for years. When I finally, after many attempts, got someone in the US to talk to me, they told me I must have signed up twice and there was nothing they could do.

I asked them if they really thought a judge would buy that and they admitted probably not but they still couldn't do anything but cancel them both. At least I finally got it canceled.

2. Have you ever had an account with them?
Have they billed you or charged your credit card?

4. Never had an account with them
that I can remember.

They asked me last night if I ever had a disc in my computer that was aol and I could not remember.

I just checked my computer and I see a program called aol instant messenger ~ it must have been on my computer when I got it!

I don't recall ever using it.

I wonder if they somehow got my credit card number when I purchased my computer?

Help!

11. I've never used it and don't recall ever purchasing it
but it is on my computer list of programs. :(

I never noticed it before.

I just filled out the form for the CA Attorney General's Office but I won't hold my breath.

Thanks so much for all your support everyone -- I always know that the Lounge is responsive. It is one of the best forums at DU in my opinion.

15. You don't purchase it.
It's a completely free program and it's popular enough that I guess some computer manufacturers include it ready-installed.

23. Probably not.
What it sounds like you're describing is probably a scam that's not really related to AOL at all. I could be wrong of course, but that's kind of how it sounds.

9. I don't think they'd have your credit card number, then.
I'd check the phone number they claimed to be calling from.

10. I tried and it was not valid

But, when I searched the web for their number I got an automated message.

I entered my phone number and they recognized it as well as my name.
They have my information but that is all they would give me.
They wanted me to give them a "new credit card number" and of course I refused.

That is when they started giving me numbers that didn't work and put me in touch with India.

14. Sounds like the definition of a scam.
Don't waste your time trying to reach AOL. They're not involved.

3. A Oh-Hell
Bastards.

Ages after we quit their service they would keep dunning our bank account.

We would get the bank to stop payment, but every time they raised the rates they would hit the account again. (You can only stop a company with your routing information from hitting you for a certain amount.)

And then when AOL took out those $$$ unexpectably...it could make other things bounce...for which the bank took $25 for each item.

It didn't stop until we closed that account.

Fuck AOL.

5. I 'm calling them right now

I'll probably have to talk to India again.
It was only when I screamed at them and told them that I only wanted to talk to someone in the United States that I got a US phone person.

They have given me the phone number for their "Fraud" department.

Seems like they are the ones comitting FRAUD.

What should I do?

7. You know the only "good" thing Glen Beck ever did was to slam AOL
He aired a recording of one of his staff members trying to end AOL service.

It was such a fucking run around it wasn't funny.

That was a couple of years ago. And it was a US call center I think.

I don't know what to tell you if have been Darksided by AOL.

Except maybe...

Courage brother.

I was listed in their database with my credit card was because of their instant messenger that I never knew I had?

22. Why not?
AOL comes with all PC's these days.

It's so aggravating, I know but so does MSM come pre-installed.

Just go ahead and uninstall it. Why not?

16. Earthlink is like that for me
We have it at work, and the thing always crashes. And I have to spend 1-2 at least each time trying to get the thing back up.
