Why is the letter "x" still in the alphabet? |
|
I was thinking about this yesterday when discussing Xena, Xanez, Xenon, and Xanadu.
The letter "x" is essentially a useless letter. While other letters have their own distinct, indescrible sound, X simply just borrows off of other letters.
If X is the first letter of the word, it simply is the same as a Z. For example, Xylophone = Zylophone, Xavier = Zavier, Xena = Zena, and so forth and so on.
If X is used within a word, it's the same as "cks". For example, Box = Bocks, Ox = Ocks, Sex = Secks, etc.
I can't think of a single reason as to why the letter x need to be in the alphabet. It serves only to sponge off the other letters.
My theory? It's Rupert Murdoch who's stopping us from abolishing the letter X.
Why Rupert Murdoch?
Because if the letter X were to be done away with, Fox News would become Focks News. And face it folks, that's just one letter away from way too much truth in advertising.

8. Next, you'll want to get rid of a vowel -- perhaps "e"? Then, how would I spell my name? |
|
Oh, that OK.
I'll say: L N

Seeing that the MPA changed their rating of risque films from "X" to "NC-17" a few years back, nudie bars who wish to advertise the same sort of risque environment would simply just need to replace "XXX" with "NC-17NC-17NC-17"
Duh!

One wouldn't know the difference between "Brown Bunny" and a 30 second oral scene from Kobe Tai taking on 4 guys on the beach.

15. My alternate theory of why "x" is still around.... |
|
The makers of Scrabble didn't want to contemplate a Scrabble game without somebody picking up an "x" and thinks to him/herself "Sh*t, what am I going to do with this?"
