Today's College Football Thread
So there are two games between top 25 teams to start the day off, but one of them—Wisconsin at Ohio State—is on the Big 10 Network (:grr:) so I won’t be able to watch it. Stupid Big 10 Network. I’m in a Big 10 university town, and I still don’t get the network on my cable. The other early game between top 25 teams is Wake Forest and Virginia—not the sexiest matchup in the world, but for whatever reason I always like watching the Demon Deacons play. As it happens, though, the morning game I’m most interested in is Kansas hosting Nebraska: the Fighting Manginos vs. the Flighting Callahans. Can the Jayhawks go 9-0 for the first time since 1908? (Probably so, given how down Nebraska is, but I suppose anything is possible.)

The early afternoon schedule is a little on the light side, but there are a few decent games before things really get going again with the late afternoon and evening games. The two highest profile evening games are LSU playing at Alabama at 5 eastern (I know we have a lot of Crimson Tide fans on DU) and a battle of top five teams in Arizona State at Oregon—should be a sweet game.

Other top teams in action at night include Mizzou traveling to Colorado, Boston College facing Florida State, and my Oklahoma Sooners hosting the Texas A&M Aggies. Aggie head coach Dennis Franchione has never won in Norman, and I know that many Aggie fans are hoping this will be his last chance

So what games are you looking forward to today?

1. Locked out of the OSU by the Big Ten Network.
Have to listen on the radio, but that's ok. It allows me to do other things while listening to the game.

At least the Buckeyes struck first. :bounce:

2. I'd be surprised if the Buckeyes don't win today, especially since
P.J. Hill wasn't going to play for Wisconsin, according to the Gameday preview. And it sounds like the offense is continuing last week's form, so it should be a good day for you buckeye fans ;)

7. Another chance for a big stop before the half
I checked ESPN's scoreboard just in time to see that Ohio State has a 3rd and goal at the 9 with just a few seconds before halftime ... sounds like it was a pretty even first half ...

16. It's become a good rivalry over the last couple of years...
Edited on Sat Nov-03-07 01:59 PM by ThinkBlue1966
2 years ago, when it was played here, the 'Eers came from behind and took the game into triple-overtime before winning it.

Last year, in Louisville, they handed us our first loss of the season (we went 10-2, dropping the second one to USF).

5. The Beavs go to the Mausoleum to try to break a streak
that goes way back. Like 1960. 48 effin' years.

Minnesota (!) (my other school) won the National Championship that year. I give the Beavs better chances to repeat history.

The grudge factor is against the Beavs today. Last year the Beavs took down USC, and last week the hated ducks did the same. So, the Trojans could be fired up.

Down the road some other team is playing ASU. Dunno how that will go, but the after game will look something like (substitute ASU Hat for the old model OSU hat) this:

SHOOT THE DUCK! SHOOT THE DUCK!

9. That will certainly be a tough game
But USC is clearly beatable, and anything can happen :)

I can't say much encouraging about Minnesota, though--not a good year for them. (Besides, they're playing the Illini this weekend, so I gotta cheer against 'em :) )

Edited on Sat Nov-03-07 03:04 PM by Writer
not that I don't think you have what it takes to catch up again (it's only the first quarter) but there are two teams in the Big 12 - Oklahoma State and Texas Tech - that rely on this obnoxious pass-only offense that gets their kiddos riled up in the beginning, but forces their players to run about the field so much that they lose steam by the fourth quarter.

45. I checked the Nebraska media guide, and it looks like
that's the most points ever scored against Nebraska. The previous record was 70, by Texas Tech in 2004. It's also the most points an opponent has ever scored in the first half (48), though Tech scored 49 in the second half in the aforementioned game. Kansas scored 11 touchdowns, breaking Tech's record of 10 as well.

Plus, he recruited for shit after a couple years. Yeah he landed DA and SJ after 2000, but fucked over the program from then on.

It's supposed to be on Gameplan, according to ESPN's TV schedule, but it isn't. And ESPN is showing the USF-Cincinnati game here, which still has 12 minutes to go. :wtf:

Originally, it was only going to be on the Oregon Sports Network, which I don't get, but because of how well they and Arizona State are doing, they got smart and added it.

Ryan threw a bit of a wobbler and the FSU defender made a move for the ball while the receiver just waited for it. He got his hands on it and had an open path to the endzone. :bounce:

130. I think that's a good question
LSU was #3 in the AP and coaches poll, so it stands to reason that they might move up to #2, but then again they didn't look as impressive today as either Oregon, Oklahoma, or Kansas. I think LSU will be #2, but I think Oregon will be closer than last week and I think Kansas will gain a lot of ground.

Of course, #2's haven't fared so well, so maybe LSU doesn't want it :)
