I just saw a fox up close, in the city. A nice red one with dark legs.
This evening I was cycling along near the Queensway and I turned up into High Park. There I saw what looked in the dusk like someone's corgi that got loose. When I got closer, I saw that it was red fox. I slowed down to get a better look and it just stood there. I stopped about eight feet away and it still just stood there. "Hi, foxy," I said. We looked at each other for about a minute and a half, then it lifted its head up, sniffed once, and disappeared into the bushes.

One doesn't see foxes very often in Toronto, especially so close to downtown. Lots of raccoons and skunks, but seldom foxes. What a beautiful animal this one was!

2. They are rare here as well, but make an occasional appearance in the hills

Make a nice collar, wouldn't it?

3. That sounds cool!
I'm in NYC where people have seen wild turkeys.
Any of them in Toronto?

5. Nope. No wild turkeys, but lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots...
...of Canada geese, enough to make all the Christmas celebrations in a small town very happy. A lot of them just stick around all winter shitting everywhere.

4. I saw one a couple of years ago, this time of year...
On the lawn in front of the triplets's house.

My niece and I both stared at it and marveled. She lives near forest, a creek and a river. Since then, they have seen deer in their yard. The triplets (who are just 7) were amazed.

I looked at the animal and thought "That is a fox!" I had never before seen one in the wild, so to speak. And it was a heavily populated suburb.
