I am in the midst of planning an EXTREMELY LOW-KEY wedding... and people keep giving me bridal magazines... no one seems to understand that we're getting married in my parents' yard, having a cookout, and i'll probably get my dress on craigslist. I DON'T NEED $2500 FLORAL CENTERPIECES, PEOPLE!!!

wedding in a fancy downtown club. My friend put unframed mirror glass on each table (round, just a flat circle of mirror), put a couple of pedestal candles of different heights in the wedding colors, added a couple or 3 tea lights in little glass containers and scattered loose rose petals around them. Gorgeous, and very non expensive. The parents are a couple who could have afforded the expensive flowers and just chose not to put the money there. One of the nicest weddings I have attended in a long time.
There are so many ways to reduce cost and still have a fun, pretty wedding with as many or as few folks invited as you wish.

What a nice idea... we are trying to do as "green" a wedding as possible, so i think we'll either have small live plants that people can take home, or cut sunflowers. It'll be next September, so i wanted something for flowers that could be locally-grown and in season. So i think i'll probably just carry a sunflower bouquet! :)
I like the candle idea though -- and i know there are some good eco-friendly candle companies. Maybe i'll look into that!

19. it was very pretty. This club has a long hallway that leads into the |
|
banquet rooms they were using, and it has windows on one wall and floor to ceiling mirrors on the other. My friend also put large pillar candles on the floor in front of the mirror wall, lit of course, and varying heights and scattered the rose petals around them. It was just lovely. The cakes were set up just past the row of candles so they cast a nice glow on the cake tables.
I was very impressed with the things she did to make this a lovely and elegant wedding without going over the top! Just two small arrangements at the altar in the church, a very simple white cake with butter cream frosting and a simple beaded edge border piped around for the bride's cake. Grooms cake was more elaborate, the couple are both Aggies so the Aggie seal was cast in chocolate on the groom's cake.
Simple decorations, etc. They put the money into the food, music and drinks. I have no idea what the dress cost but it did not look over the top at all.
Good luck with yours. You can pick up African Violets for a very reasonable price, if you want to use the live plants. Depending on where you live ,you may find someone who can grow your sunflowers for you. Seeds are cheap.
