1. Was that the one build by "mad" King Ludwig?
Nice pictures. The place looks good in the fog.

Is it still in the countryside, or has urban sprawl enveloped it in the (many) years since I saw it?

:hi:

2. Yes, that's the one
and it is still country side. But a lot of tourists.

3. Cool pics!
My mom painted that castle one time. I don't know what she did with the painting, but it was very good ... maybe someone bought it.

:hi:

5. Thanks
I don't need to go near that castle or inside it (been there once, that was enough for a lifetime), but the scenery sure is gorgeous.

7. If I went there,
I don't remember. Seems like it would be cold and damp. Looks that way from the outside, anyway. Makes a pretty picture, though. :D

10. I actually walked up that damned hill the first time.
Every time after that, I took the little wagon ride.

Much more enjoyable.

Thanks for the memories!

25. I walked up that hill ..... IN HEELS
I was a complete dummy and dressed up in a dress and heels. I didn't check the itinerary before breakfast. :x(

I went in 1984, 23 years ago. I need to go again.

It is pretty even if it is overdone.

Cool pix, Miss HC! :D

12. I used to have a poster of "not foggy" Neuschwanstein on the living room wall of my first apartment
So while it deserves a lot better, I immediately associate Neuschwanstein with a crummy little third-floor, one bedroom apartment in Redwood City, California.

:toast:

14. LOL
nothing wrong with that. Neuschwanstein is only an apartment anyway, just a bit oversized

15. Nah, it will be like that the next 100 years or so as well
nothing changed. Still a tourist attraction and every person with sense stays away

22. You were there like a week after me. The castle was a lot of fun.
We hit Neuschwanstein on our way to Oktoberfest. Which was also fun but in a totally different way.

26. Went there on a day kinda like that
Edited on Mon Nov-05-07 04:07 PM by libnnc
in July, 1980. It was raining. Got to the road that leads up there but the tour bus guide told us the castle was closed :-(

That was the only castle we didn't get to see. Saw the rest of Ludwig's palaces though. He really liked peacocks...

Edit to add: AHA! Now I remember...tour guide person said if we wanted to see the outside of the castle, we could walk up the road (inside was off limits--someone actually lived there?). It was raining and miserable and we decided to skip it.

I was 9 years old. Those 17 days are kinda fuzzy...Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein all from a bus....tour buses SUCK.
