I think my senior guy has Alzheimer's. Going to the vet today.
Last week....two different nights I got up and he was standing in the dark in the living room. Then this weekend he kept pacing or standing all day. And the poor thing has arthritis but it was like he just couldn't sit down. So last night I gave him a tranquilizer and he finally slept. This morning he was out in the back yard licking a concrete brick for about 1/2 hour.

I know he is real old, (17 years) but I hate to see him suffer. We have an appointment at 2:30 today. I hope the vet can help him.

Duke is the guy I got last December from a rescue. His people were an old couple and the wife died and the husband was going into an assisted living facility.

Any good vibes for Duke would be really appreciated.

This is a picture from when I first brought him home.

2. Thanks MonkeyFunk. I kind of knew he would have problems when
I got him but now that it is really happening it feels like a complete shock.

He really is a cutie and I just love him to death.

5. He's a real cutie
:hi: My sister's Beagle mix had Altzheimers and was placed on Anipryl. He did well and lived five years after starting on the drug (he was 17 years old too). It will all work out okay.

Give Duke a:hug: from me and an "Arf!" from Cindy and Murphy.

6. He was put on the drug at 17? Because now I'm sitting here crying
and thinking the vet might want to put him down and maybe that's what I should do. Other than his mind and the arthritis he is in very good health.

The whole thing is starting to make me really upset. I hate that I have to wait until 2:30

7. Anipryl is almost a miracle. The same drug is used for people

under the name Aricept. Your vet works for you, not the other way around. If he pushes euthanasia without even trying the drug, find another vet. It's worth a try.

If the vet doesn't want to treat him, please ask around for another vet. Peabody (my sister's dog) was relatively healthy and had no ill effects from the Anipryl.

Here's a  for you too.....I really think this will be okay. Please let us know.

Edit: grammar
