Dennis Franchione's days as the head coach at Texas A&M appear to be numbered.

Texas A&M is talking about buying out Franchione's contract, sources have told ESPN college football analyst Andre Ware.

Franchione has been in hot water with the university for a newsletter he was sending out to donors willing to pay $1,200 for inside information. In mid-October, Texas A&M officials admonished Franchione for his secretive, for-pay newsletter and said the embarrassing episode would be a factor in deciding whether he returns next season.

2. Franchione is a JERK!
Left Bama in the lurch after they paid him a gazillion bucks to come here.

3. Thank GOD!
I hate Francione with the burning heat of a thousand white-hot suns. He's been a shitty coach from day one, and it's KILLING me watching all the talent we have this year just be wasted by poor coaching.

Now add to that the fact that he's a dishonest fuckhead, and his departure can't come soon enough to suit me. I think they were insane to get rid of R.C., btw.

Shakespeare, class of '86. Whoop!

14. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but after this years Tech game.
I said enough, FIRE HIS ASS! That is the biggest piss poor job of play calling I have ever seen. And gary darnell and his defense planning is like they just had someone the ball and have the defense chase them around for practice. Bend don't break don't work in upper level football. Maybe 1-A or 2-A high school ball, but College or higher, that type of defense will get your ass handed to you. Like it has.

Now...Tommy Tuberville? Meh... They should hire a young, aggressive, up and coming coach like they did with the basketball program. Kind of like OU did with Bob Stoops.

I'd like to see an innovative offensive coach come in.

10. But the play calling I have seen from him is imaginative, but...
Edited on Mon Nov-05-07 06:40 PM by texas1928
It compliments the talent he has on the field. So you have a running back like saturday Lane ran the ball 5 times for 28 yards. that is 5.6 yards a carry. Major would run the ball, and screen pass to Goodson.

13. To say nothing of Martellus Bennett.
When that guy gets the ball, good things happen. He is chronically under-used. I hope he goes to the NFL where someone will note his talent.

I know how great that feels.

Nebraska's head coach isn't even going to get a seat on the return flight from Boulder (our last game of the season). And GOOD RIDDANCE!

:woohoo:

Note to Aggie fans: If Bill Callahan calls, looking for a job...don't answer the phone. ;)

20. My advice: don't wait until Colorado to fire Callahan.
We have the alumni base to consider an $8.5M buyout, so paying a coach isn't a problem.

Remember who our AD is. :D

22. Eh, the writing's on the wall
and we can't hire anyone until post-season anyway. Plus, none of the support coaching staff is qualified to step up and coach either, so we have nothing to gain by announcing his "retirement" early.

Besides, the *real* problem isn't so much Callahan as it is Cosgrove. Our offense is fully functional with a 2nd string quarterback. We did score 39 points last week. That SHOULD be more than enough to win a game. Except that our defense is so fucking horrid that my nephew's pee wee league could score on them. But I digress.

;)

Oh yeah, our offense is boring and predictable. How could I forget? x(

I guess we're going on the theory that if hiring Alabama's coach didn't work, maybe hiring Auburn's will. :D On that note, UAB's coach is Watson Brown, who is Mack's brother...nahhhhh

29. This is all news to the A&M Athletic Department by the way.
http://www.statesman.com/news/content/gen/ap/FBC_Franchione_Buyout.html

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M said Monday it would wait until the end of the football season before deciding Coach Dennis Franchione's fate.

CBS Sportsline and the Houston Chronicle reported Monday that Franchione and the school were working on a buyout deal that would end his tenure at the end of this season.

(snip)

"There are several false rumors circulating regarding the Texas A&M football program," the school said in an e-mailed statement.

Athletics department spokesman Alan Cannon said athletics director Bill Byrne would wait until the end of the season to evaluate Franchione, as he does with all coaches.

31. Well it says in the rest of the article I posted...
That they are also looking at whether or not he violated his contract. And if he did, then they do not have to pay him a dime if they let him go. I did not figure they would get rid of him til the end of the year. But I just posted that since it hit ESPN CF's frontpage. And was excited because maybe this disgrace will come to an end.

33. That's truly the delicious part.
If we can get rid of him AND not have to pay him, so much the better.

I've heard rumors that he will resign (agree to the buyout) on the Tuesday before the Texas game.
