Costco has a funeral section?
I was browsing Costco just now, looking for something completely different and just noticed the "Funeral" tab.

:wtf:

I suppose it's a logical extension of their services but it just strikes me as odd to buy a casket from the same place that sells me DVDs and bacon-wrapped scallops by the butt load.

1. Yup. And based on the amounts I have had to pay for funerals
over the last few years, the services are pretty reasonable, as are the caskets.

with a casket

8. I'm going for the "green" funeral
If I can't get a "sky burial" (that's when they leave you out and invite the vultures to drop by, which I suspect is illegal in the US).

There's actually a "green" cemetery within driving distance of here: http://www.glendalenaturepreserve.org/
Does Costco offer sturdy six-foot cardboard boxes?

9. No, just regular caskets and ash urns

edit: I think in NC you are required to embalm.

While i think our culture is way too squeamish about dead bodies, I personally wouldn't want to be left out for scavengers. But that's just me. :-)

15. Very few states actually require embalming, and even then only under special circumstances
Althought there are probably some unscrupulous funeral directors who will tell you otherwise.

Embalming is rarely required by law. The Federal Trade Commission and many state regulators require that funeral directors inform consumers that embalming is not required except in certain special cases. Embalming is required when crossing state lines from Alabama, Alaska, and New Jersey <snip> Four other states — California*, Idaho, Kansas, and Minnesota — require embalming when a body is shipped by common carrier.

16. You don't have to buy the caskets in shrink - wrapped packages of 5, do you?
