Banks. Suck.
I deposited a two-party check Tuesday afternoon and was told it'd clear on Friday.

On my way home from the football game about half an hour ago, I stopped at the ATM to check my balance.

The check hasn't cleared.

Meanwhile, I'm two days behind on the rent (I told the property manager I needed a couple extra days and she said okay, since I'm such a stellar tenant), I got a "reminder" from AT&T on Wednesday and I'd really like to get gas and groceries.

:grr:

1. Well, that stinks!
You'd think that with all this "modern technology", things could happen quickly.

4. Oh, things happen quickly, all right...
...when it involves them taking something out of your account. When it comes to putting money into it, not so much.

The worst example I experienced was many years ago, while I was in grad school. I wound up having a rent check bounce because First Interstate (now Wells Fargo) put a five-day hold on a $50 cash deposit. Needless to say, that was the last business I ever had with that bank...

3. Tell me about it
I'm down to my last grand and I'm waiting for an out of town check to pay this month and last months rent and for the bank to do a very important transfer for me. It's crunch time

5. A couple of months ago...
...I had a large check sent to my account by mail. It went directly to WaMu's mail-deposit processing center in Los Angeles, where they cashed the check, but never deposited the money in my account (apparently, it went to some other account or something). Since the check had already cleared the payer's bank, they couldn't just stop payment and send me a new check. Instead, I had to wait several days for that bank (based on the east coast, although the payment had come from California) to get the payer a photocopy of the canceled check, which they then had to send to me, which I then had to send to WaMu. They finally straightened it out, but I'm glad I wasn't depending on that check to be there in time to pay my mortgage!

6. Check again in the morning
it may not post until tonight.

I know what you mean about banks. Payments clear within seconds, deposits take forever.

7. Yeah, I gave up on my last bank when I deposited CASH and it didn't show up for two days.
This was after they'd been nickle and diming me for several years... and on top of that, I never chose to have an account with them. They bought out my nice friendly bank that I'd been using up until then.

8. well, it's amazing that they still take a two party check.
That doesn't happen with Wells Fargo or BofA anymore. No two party checks, period.

What really is making us insane is the way they rearrange your history continually. My niece bought an airline ticket over the phone last night, using a debit card. The online banking showed the transaction confirmed, everything hunky dory. This morning, the transaction was completely missing from the bank records. The money had been restored to the account, with NO RECORD of any purchase of airline tickets. This kind of crap happens all the time. The record of debits and credits is constantly rearranged. Dates are actually changed, too, so they have no meaning -- no relationship to actual events. It's totally insane.

Yes, they make more money from fines and fees than anything else, and will hold incoming checks so as to inconvenience the user and hopefully bounce things to get that $34 fee!

It's a predatory system of domination. It's a rigged racket.

So, I feel for you, ol' pal.

9. I Hate Banks
by Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper

I hate banks...
I just can't stand 'em.
Gimme a shovel & man I'll plant 'em.
Six feet under thats where they belong...
I hate banks is the name of this song.
I think I'll rob myself one or two...
Yeah I hate banks, yeah, how 'bout you?

Well...lend me a nickel & lend me a dime,
repossess my house any old time.
Financial institutions
think they're so high faluting...
Just a bunch of fruits in three piece suits,
trying to steal all my loot.
Things are smelling pretty rank,
We must be near a stinking bank.
Smells worse than Rockefellers' feet,
Wall Street can eat my meat.

Yeah throw the moneylenders out of the temple;
I hate banks its just that simple.
Royal Crown Pomade Tin,
the best thing to keep your money in.
Mason jar is okay too,
if you see a bank well you know what to do.

Now, lemme tell you people something...
The only banks I like, well, I like Ernie Banks alright.
And I like the banks of the Mississippi River...
Yeah, and I like banks of fender twin reverb...
Electric guitar amplifiers behind me, raging on the stages...

Well,when I walk in they treat me like a dog;
want to hit them in the head with a doo-doo log.
Republicans, one and all...
Their tallywackers are mighty small.
Stealing from the poor gonna give to the rich...
Wanna make the bank president twitch in a ditch.

Yeah, see that teller with the blue hair,
giving me the evil-eye stare.
Won't cash my check don't like my ID...
got the security guard after me.
If I was E. F. Sloan,
I'd say Dow Jones can suck my bone.
Yeah.

Everybody say the three magic words!
I want you to help me say the words!
I want you to repeat after me!
I HATE BANKS!
Can't stand 'em!
I HATE BANKS!
Don't Like 'em!
I HATE BANKS!
Bunch of Foo-Foo's!
I HATE BANKS!
Contrary like a big zit!

I hate banks...
I just can't stand 'em.
Gimme a shovel & man I'll plant 'em.
Six feet under thats where they belong...
I hate banks is the name of this song.
I think I'll rob myself one or two...
Yeah I hate banks, yeah, how 'bout you?

Now lemme tell you something...
I'm not real fond of the PHONE COMPANY either!
You know?
Yeah, and I don't like the cable TV company.
You know why I don't like the cable TV company?
Cause they just be sucking that stuff right out the sky!
THEY don't have to pay nuttin for it!
I just get me one of them bootleg cable boxes,
and get me one of them climb the pole and stick the thing in...
I ain't gonna pay for it!
NOOOOO!!!!"
