Does anyone have the "24/7 always pissed off co-worker "? I do !
I have a co-worker in my department who is always pissed off.I don't think he has ever had a good night. And if you have a good night,he is not going to let you have a good night. There is always some controversy and there is always something wrong. He is a ticking time bomb. He calls people out and talks shit to them in front of everyone and expects you to take it. Just like tonight while we were all sitting in the break room ready to go home he is walking through cursing real loud. It made no sense. We all had a great night. Apparently he is upset and the tasks that are handed out to all of us - don't get mad at us for the tasks we are assigned. I am only there to work. Some of us have so much going on in our lives that work might be the only place where we have some peace and quiet - its like that for some people. But this guy , he is going to make someone very angry. I am so tired of him.

Tonight he was telling someone in another department out loud that he wanted to go their department and he said out loud that our senior manager, manager ,the analysts that we work with , another co-worker (his best friend from his country) and I (I thought I was his friend too) - he said that we are all full of shit and that he did'nt like us. I was like "huh? where did that come from?" so I just walked away. That's when he came into the break room acting crazy ... seriously one day something is going to come to a head and someone is going to lose their job. I can't wait until he goes on leave of absence like he does every year. I pray that its soon.

Thanks for letting me vent.

2. Those aren't the ones that scare me
It's the ones who never say ANYTHING except stare you down when you pass them that freak me out.

3. I had one.
He was one of those people who suffer loudly, groaning and cursing and so forth every time he had to do something that the rest of the staff did every minute of every hour of every day.

He's since gone on to a new job, and if anything, he was even nastier during his last two weeks with the company.

4. He's creating a hostile work environment
and should be disciplined as a prelude to dismissal. IMHO.

6. Yeah I am too but I keep it to myself.
Because as much as sometimes I don't like my job , I need it right now ...

But this person is just mad because no one kisses his ass and he can't do what he wants to do ...

10. worked with a guy like that once
and they fired him and then they put up fences around the front of the plant and a turnstile where we had to badge in and out with security badges. That was also right around the time they had to fire the plant manager because he went to Japan to meet with the CEO's of the Japanese half of the company and he got all drunk on saki and cursed them all out and trashed his hotel room...so the extra security measures could have been for either one of them. It sounds like that guy is a loose cannon who could potentially go postal. It's scary that all the warning signs are there and the company isn't doing anything, because they could get sued if something happens.

12. We already have security turnstiles ...
we have to use our badge to get in and out of the gate. He has the same main targets : our manager and senior managers , our analysts , other workers and myself. We don't do anything to except do our job.Seriously I think he has some issues. We were just sitting in the break room and he comes through cursing for no damn reason telling us to kiss his ass. Trust me , management will know about this. I am going to document it. And I fear retaliation because he always thinks someone is out to get him. If he would just stfu he would'nt have anything to worry about.

15. Our manager has had to talk to him so many times ...
but I don't think it has ever gotten to Human Resources. He pissed off one of our supervisors a couple of months ago all because she was doing her job and gave us the work that we were supposed to do.He has a problem with authority and females especially. He went off on me one night right in front of our analyst because I did'nt hear his damn page over the intercom. I work in a damn warehouse with conveyors going on all around me and plus no one ever understands what he is saying. I went off on him. I had other things on my damn mind so I just went off. After I made an ass of him of course he tried to safe face and said "he was just playing". He has had problems with the wrong people. He is creating a hostile enviroment.

17. someone should be documenting all of this
Edited on Tue Nov-13-07 10:24 AM by tigereye
it sounds like HR should be involved and he needs some kind of conaching form, etc, or whatever your process is.

I only say this since when I was a manager in a social service agency, that is how we dealt with stuff like that.

This guy sounds like an impediment to everyone's work process and at worst a potential big problem...

good luck.

11. Try cheerfully inappropriate answers: best delivered with "I'm clueless" tone and expression
I don't mean sarcasm: I mean off-the-wall delivered with a straight-face, not conveying the slightest hint that you realize you're not engaging with butthead at butthead's level.

Butthead: #@$% you!
You (to Butthead): Hey! Remember that scene in Mary Poppins where she slides up the bannister?
Butthead: What the #@$% are you #@$%!
You (to another co-worker): I wonder why I thought of that ... Memory is so fascinating!

13. Nope I am not saying anything to him at all ...
I am not giving him any attention ... even when I took my headphones off to ask him what did he say, he told me to kiss his ass. And I did'nt do anything to him. I did'nt see him the whole night and all of sudden he was mad because his ass had to work.

And he would'nt know who Mary Poppins was because he is from Sudan.
