2. Sorry, I can't discuss that.
Hits way too close to home.

I am interested to see if any other discussion ensues.

5. Nah, the "alien" part would confuse 'em
They'd interpret it as a slam against Kucinich or something.

8. It is outdated and stems from when a wife was considered a property right.

Now days, the thinking is: it takes 2 to tango. If a spouse doesn't want to cheat, then they will not.

It should be eliminated, imho.

12. Thanks for commenting --
I would have agreed with you once, now I am not as sure. Seems the older I get the less sure I am of a lot of things.

13. Yes, it is possible for a third party to alienate a married adult's affections from a spouse
And it is an actionable offense.

14. I think it's a great idea (seriously, for once)
If you have a hand in causing that much pain to someone, then you get what you deserve. And while these laws had their birth in the 19th century women-as-property paradigm, it's the 21st century now: knowingly sleep with another person's spouse, and suffer the consequences.

Cheating has nothing to do with unhappiness. Cheating is about lack of courage and lack of willpower. You have to go out of your way to cheat. If you were just unhappy, you would get a divorce -- if you had any proverbial balls.

Cheating your way out of things is just an excuse for being a wimp.

15. It's a problem in cases where people have problems and their community is stupid.
On occasion my ex would become clinically paranoid and report his delusions as truth to a third party.

That third party then helped him "escape" the situation for an afternoon or a weekend or a week. With no back up plan on the other side. Like, where he'd live and who would facilitate for him and that kind of small detail.

(In fact, that's been the pattern for his whole adult life and no one seems to get it.)

So, it happens to vulnerable people and can destabilize their already fragile lives although, I'm not sure how useful it is as a legal category.
