Sorry, I interpreted it as you complaining that the guy bought his obviously inexperienced kid a car.

2. Gah!
If any of my kids were in an accident, the friggin' car would be the LAST thing on my mind.

4. yes, they do. First thing I asked my dad when he told me he'd
been in an accident was "Is the car OK?" Duh. I guess I figured since he was calling me (and to be fair, telling me the accident had happened days earlier) that he was OK. But still. Rather insensitive of me.

7. The two statements are not similar
Your statement is more along the lines of somebody who is frazzled and not thinking clearly. Of course the car is not OK. It's just been in an accident. The statement in the OP is coming from a selfish jerk. He has examined the situation and come to the conclusion that the accident is a financial loss. He has thought of this over the safety of his own child. He is a selfish, materialistic bastard.

8. Maybe he was thinking that a brand new truck should have protected his
daughter better!

6. that is EXACTLY what came into my mind
sometimes when people are frazzled, they're not thinking clearly at all.
