Arrrggghhh!! None of my Thanksgiving luncheon desserts are working out right! |
|
Tomorrow is our Thanksgiving luncheon at work. I signed up to take a dessert. I made my mom's "Frosty Mandarin Dessert" (orange Jello, orange sherbet and mandarin oranges). It's been in the refrigerator for 4 hours and is NOT firming up properly. In desperation I took out a box of brownie mix 40 minutes ago and slapped it together - I don't seem to have a 13x9 pan anymore, so I used one a little larger, and the brownies came out approximately 1/24" inch thick (seemingly). I guess they'll taste okay. I'll assess the situation tomorrow morning and proceed accordingly.
Not a major disaster in the grand scheme of things, but annoying nonetheless!

I was right there with you last Thanksgiving...
After watching a few Food TV's holiday episodes I had this grand idea of making various kinds of truffles...The pretty kind you buy at the Godiva store...
What I ended up with didn't look very appetizing.. :)

Crumble the brownies into chunks, fold gently into the Jell-O, and put the whole thing into the freezer. Top with some grated chocolate. Call it Frosty Mandarin-Chocolate Trifle Mold. I guarantee that people will find it remarkable.
The first secret of cooking. If something doesn't work, call it something else.

6. man, you folks celebrate early! |
|
I would bring a liter of diet pepsi, a bottle of vodka, and an attitude!
Truly, good luck with everything, and don't worry about it. In the grander scheme of things, this is next to nothing.

7. Do you have a can of frosting? |
|
If so, spread a little frosting on half of them and slap the other half on top... sandwich brownies.
I hate it when the jello doesn't set!:grr:

9. Well, this morning the Jello seems firmer |
|
(boy, this is potentially erotic...) I had turned down the refrigerator temperature a bit before turning in last night. Something about the sherbet/mandarin orange syrup & water combo seems to make it not firm up as well as just plain Jello. I'll take that one to work. Of course, I have a 30-mile commute, so it'll decompensate a tad by the time I reach the office, but oh well. I had planned to stop at the courthouse on my way in to file a petition, but don't know if I should take the extra 30 minutes or however long it will take to do that. Sometimes your best-laid plans for the courthouse keep you there longer than expected.
We are celebrating early because we are fortunate enough to get Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off next week. I guess they wanted to keep the Thanksgiving celebration on a Thursday rather than doing it Monday or Tuesday of next week.
The brownies will wait for Mr. DTBK and me to consume them - we won't care how short they are!

10. There's a wonderful, magical place called a "bakery" ... |
|
at this "bakery", you can purchase many exciting and wonderful desserts that would make your workmates quite happy and joyful.
Perhaps you could locate one of these places and they may be able to help solve your problem.

11. I feel guilty. We do a big thankgiving lunch at work |
|
and this year I can't bring anything. Not only can't I cook anymore, I can't carry anything. I'm on crutches. :(
So I contributed money, and I'm just going to mooch off of what other people bring. It is really kind of bothering me.
