Just saw a house covered in Xmas lights
Guess they figure there's a prize for being the first with "holiday spirit."

1. My subdivision is about 85% "Desi"
Many of our neighbors put up lights last weekend for Diwali. I thought it was early Christmas lights, but then my husband reminded me of Diwali last Saturday. Many of the lights are now down.

2. Ah
There's a bit of a "desi" population here as well.

Thanks for the enlightenment. :hi:

3. Perchance you are in the Fremont/Union City/Newark area?
I know there's a huge community there. Lucky stiffs - I'd love to live out there and be able to walk Lake Elizabeth in Fremont with my sister.

4. Nope
'bout 60 miles south.

I've been on Mowry Road a few times, though. Used to have cousins in Fremont.

6. It's slang for someone from the Indian subcontinent living in America
My husband is Pakistani - it means something like "from the homeland."

7. I had lunch a few days ago with one of my neighbors who hired a decorating company
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 12:46 AM by Scooter24
to come do her lights. Spent $9000. Yep, 9 grand. $2000 alone went to lights.

I'm still debating on whether or not to decorate outside my house this year. I don't have much time to do it, and would have to hire a decorator. *sigh* I was hoping to keep my costs below $2000 this year.

Most people are starting to do put lights and decor up, but you won't find most of them turned on until next weekend.

8. You just need one sign in your yard, that says...
"I donated our X-mas decoration money to (insert charity of your choice)"

The food banks are having a really hard time this year.

Might give your neighbors something to think about.
