Up by 32 points, the Patriots go for it on 4th down instead of just kicking a field goal and they wind up going up 49-10?
I must be missing something here.

...is something called "sportsmanship." 'Cause you sure aren't seeing it from New England tonight.
(I used to live in Boston, and followed the Pats religiously. After tonight, I'll be cheering for anyone to beat those assholes.)

25. I would agree if the score had been, say, 21-20. |
|
If the Patriots were in danger of falling behind or losing if they didn't get the 4th down, then absolutely go for it. When you're up by 32 points and you could easily kick a chip shot field goal to make it an even 35? Ehh, not so much.

I never said anything about them being cheap or dirty. I was just wondering aloud why being up by 35 points over a clearly inferior team wasn't good enough. Nothing more, and nothing less than that did I ask.

Face it---the Patriots are AWESOME this year. It's not my fault that the only other decent team in the NFL is Green Bay. I would LOVE to face them in the SB.

33. Well, there ARE teams out there that DO slow it down once they have the game well in hand. |
|
Such teams would have, say, kicked a field goal instead of going for it. The Patriots are clearly not one of those teams this year.
Just an observation.

C'mon. It's a good practice. If the other team is embarrassed by the performance, that's okay. Funny thing about sports, at some point almost everyone seems to be champ.

45. When a team is being shutout should the defense let them score? |
|
I'm sure it would prevent the offensive player's wittle feelings from getting hurt, so why don't why we see it done? Isn't that the classy thing to do?
Why does an offense have to take it easy on a defense when we praise great defensive teams ('86 Bears anyone) for doing their job to the best of their ability? Why does no one care about how the offensive players feel?
I'll take answers to any or all questions. :)

46. You can't complain about "running up the score" in professional sports, people. |
|
The Buffalo Bills are obviously not as good as the New England Patriots. Duh. But the fact remains that they are STILL BEING PAID MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO PLAY FOOTBALL. When you are getting ridiculous amounts of money to play football, you don't get to whine about other people being better than you; you play hard or go home. This isn't high school football where the players are just amateur kids playing to hopefully have fun and learn teamwork. This is their JOB. The Buffalo defense's JOB - what they are PAID TONS OF MONEY TO DO - is shut down the opposing team. It is NOT incumbent on the opposing team to "help" you or make your job easier because you suck. If the Bills got their asses kicked, then it's up to them to improve, or else the Buffalo organization owes it to the team and the fans to acquire better players. If you sucked at your job, would you expect everyone else to lower their production to make you "look better"? Or would you be looking for another job?
This may be a "game" but at the professional level, it is also a career. In what other career are talented employees expected to stifle themselves so that the slackers aren't embarassed?
