Update on my father-in-law (diagnosed with MRSA):

He is responding to the antibiotics, and is now out of intensive care, but still in the hospital for the next few days at least.

14. Speedy recovery! Thank goodness the antibiotic is effective.

My 85 year-old mom had MRSA (methicillin resistant staph. aureus) last March. She also had esophageal shingles. Together, it almost killed her. She was in the ICU then isolation in the hospital for 8 weeks on Vancomycin for the MRSA.

My guess is that your father-in-law will get a PICC tube and do a long course of antibiotic therapy. I would not be surprised if he spent a while in isolation in the hospital.

Best of luck to him and the family. It is tough. I know.
