What's your opinion of meeting people on internet dating sites?

I broke up with my girlfriend of 5 years about a month and a half ago and I am absolutely dreading going out to meet people. Do you think meeting people over internet dating sites is a good idea?

.. some people lie on those things.

My older sister found out, after meeting a few guys that way, most of what they said were lies.

Maybe she was just unlucky... who knows?

Dating sites? Not so much.

People who use dating sites have some expectation of satisfaction. In a way, it's like a transaction in a store. I wouldn't want that kind of pressure.

OTOH, right here at DU there're probably a dozen women I'd love to date, if they'd have me. I found that out just by stalking them talkin' with 'em.

11. They're ok but in sheer numbers alone

most sites favor women, meaning there are many more men on there looking than there are women. But for the ladies it means they get a lot of weirdos replying to them and have to sort through all the responses to get to the decent guys. I've not seen one where the numbers favor the men. If anyone knows of one, let me know.
