Those newfangled ATM's confusternated me.... |
|
I deposited a check the other night. It was one of those new ATM's that doesn't require an envelope for a deposit, and it scans your check and reads the numbers right off it.
Well, the whole thing confused me so much I left my card in the machine!
I have a second, duplicate card. I just tried to use it at an ATM and it said I was unauthorized!
I then noticed I didn't have the other card with me. I thought maybe I'd lost it, and somebody tried to use it, entering the wrong PIN repeatedly, OR had used it successfully and the bank put a hold on my account.
I got home, called the bank, and found out that it was just my stupidity at play. They've stopped the hold on my account, and all is well.
Damn fancy-ass machines.

1. They're Diebold machines! |
|
At least that is what Bank of America is using now.

6. Don't knock the Diebold ATM's |
|
For all the bad rap they have deservedly gotten for their voting machines - by contrast their ATM's are mighty reliable.

7. But I gotta knock 'em! NCR make better ATMs. |
|
And I'm biased because my first university has a program with their ATM manufacturing plant in Dundee, Scotland (guess which university that would be) and I was mighty impressed with what I saw when I took a tour of their plant. In any case I just feel more at home using the NCR ATM than I do the Diebold machines.
Mark.

8. I'm familiar with Diebold, NCR and Fuji |
|
All make very reliable products (with the exception of Diebold's voting division).

it did take a long time! And I was worried because it was a very big check, and it hadn't asked me to enter the amount. I thought something had gone wrong.
I thought maybe it ate my check and would just laugh at me - "Check? What check?"

11. Ha. Yesterday I went to make a deposit and then withdraw some |
|
cash. Totally forgot about the cash because I was so befuddled.
I do love those things, though. I almost never made it to the bank prior to 5PM to get deposits in. My own fault. We have direct deposit and I would wait and wait and wait until the last possible minute to deposit assorted random checks.
