On the "YOU ARE WHAT YOU IS" tour.
Awesome. Truly a genius.
Dweezil is a damn good guitarist too!
Anybody else remember Dweezil and Ahmet hosting a silly fun show called "HAPPY HOUR"???
At the end they would play a 1960s rock classic, and everyone would dance to it, and they would put the words on the screen.

4. Saw Zappa three times in LA |
|
Every show was a masterwork. The show at the Pauley Pavilion (1981, I think) featured Terrie Bozzio on drums and Eddie Jobson on keys. They formed a group with John Wetton called "UK" that made a few records and IIRC they opened for Zappa about a year later when Zappa had Chad Wackerman on drums.
God how I miss Zappa.

3. I may be totally wrong but... |

Wasn't Zappa a dancing fool? So much for his music cred. ;)

5. He didn't want to get drafted |

...and he tried to make sure that didn't happen to his kids and ours.
That was just a small part of his political cred :D:thumbsup:

I'm a huge fan. In fact, my sub was about Frank's song, "I Don't Wanna Get Drafted" that he made up during Reagan's warmongering years. The Selective Service had just been revived under Ronnie and FZ was convinced it was a precursor to compulsory military service.
I love Zappa's music and political leanings, and not merely because he despised Republicans in general and Reagan in particular. He was all about unfettered free expression.

11. You could not be more correct re: Zappa being about free expression... |
|
He had a knack for going mainstream in order to highlight his rebel nature. Here's some rare footage of Zappa appearing as a judge on "Dance Fever." I actually saw this as it aired & about crapped my pants! -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEMj8RCZqtw
