The Best COFFEE ever!
Oh man, I discovered Yemeni coffee on a trip to the Dubai Shopping Festival.

I am a bit of a coffee snob and only drink the best... Yemen beats everyone (including Jamaican Blue). The taste is rich and out of this world.

The company I go it from is here

http://www.yemendirect.net/yc/profile.htm

I don't think they have an outlet in the U.S. and unfortunately they don't sell on the internet... :(

I am going to see if they have an outlet in Dubai though.

I have also tried another Yemeni brand that I liked as well. It had an absolutely wonderful smokey caramel flavor.

Anyone else have any great coffee experiences?

1. A few years ago...
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 06:24 AM by JDWalley
...Starbucks used to sell a pure Arabian Mocha Sanani from Yemen that was one of the best coffees I've ever tried -- and definitely the best varietal McLatte's ever came up with. Unfortunately, it also cost double the price of any other varietal in the store. I haven't been in a Starbucks for over a year, so I don't know if they still carry it, or, if so, if the current crop is as good as the one I had.

In terms of other coffee experiences, I was down in Colombia seven years ago this month. Folks, the Colombian beans we get here don't even begin to give a sense of what that coffee is like. Even the generic supermarket brands (equal to Maxwell House or Folgers here) are better than virtually any of the versions we get in the U.S. (although the SBC version is decent). I had one cup at a restaurant, so I couldn't find out the bean supplier, but it was simply amazing. The first taste was very dark and complex, which would lead me to suspect that it would have a rough "finish" like many coffees from Asia. However, as it passed through my mouth, it "lightened" in quality until it went down as smooth as a light roast. I've never before experienced a coffee that literally changed its nature within seconds, almost going from "yin" to "yang," with each sip. Amazing.

2. I paid 20 dhms. or
just over $5 for a bag for this coffee at the festival.

Even more bizarre (in terms of flavor), I usually buy whole beans and grind my own... this was 'pre-ground' and still had the most amazing flavor.

4. OMG. That sounds heavenly. Gevalia offers some good stuff...
But NOTHING like the Yemeni coffee you had.

I'd love to try some of that delicious coffee. Gevalia offers a decent Peruvian Organic coffee, which is ok.

If you find out anything more about the Yemeni coffee and how to obtain, please let us know.

Terry

18. That will get you some from the region
It should be good if the roasting is good.

The roaster (company) can also make a huge difference.

13. I'm a Peet's junkie
I don't swill coffee in mass quantities .. maybe one or two cups a day. But I want it to be fantastic. I've been ordering it from Peet's for years now, saving up for that treat even when it meant scraping pennies together.

Yum!!!!! And now that Rabrrrrrr introduced me to the idea of the travel mug with the built-in French press, I never have to drink bad gas station coffee again!!

Woo hoo!

14. Peet's=The Best
We ran out last week and my wife and I are dying. The shipment should be here any day--I forgot to plan aead. I particularly like the Major Dickeson's Bend and French Roast. They used to carry a Mexican coffee that I thought was great.

21. I gave it up for a long time... and then I found
(from an allergist) it was actually the milk I was allergic to...

Now, I take coffee as a pleasure (luxury) item once or twice a week... only in the mornings.

Otherwise, I stick to green tea and occasionally black.

23. I love all coffee
I did like the old starbucks stuff. It's not the same anymore. Jamaican Blue made me an official coffee snob. :)

Big However---You will never believe me BUT....

The best coffee I ever had came from a machine at a rest stop on I-75 between Cincinnati and Middletown Ohio. Push #3 for extra strong, and no sugar, and Bam!!! Great coffee. Never woulda guessed it.

24. This stuff is better than Jamaican...
of course it's a taste thing...

For the most part, I don't like flavored coffees (for example). I hazelnut and other nuts, I just don't want them in my coffee.

:)

heck, I need to FIND that! Thanks for the tip. I agree about added flavor for the most part. My home brew will have cinnamon however.
