Have you ever mistaken a dream for an actual event? |
|
I've done it now and then

and usually it's a dream about me getting up, dressed, & ready for the day...then I wake up and I'm still in bed, and also usually running late. x( I have also had dreams regarding other events, though, and I've occasionally mistaken those for reality.

Also, that I have failed to call in for a substitute, and I'm still trying desperately to get to work.

Have you ever heard of people having vivid dreams about being abducted by aliens, but it is really a type of "paralyzed" condition in which they are semi-awake and dreaming and cannot move? I know that has happened to me, but not about aliens! It has happened when I have fallen into a deep sleep in the daytime. I can hear others moving about the house, even though no one else is at home. It's kind of spooky, because you don't know what is real and what is imagined.

My dreams are usually very vivid, and there are countless times I will wake up believing the events in my dream happened in real life.
Sometimes, it's good when I wake up and realize I was only dreaming.
Other times, not so good.

I have had some realistic dreams
especially regarding remembrances of actual events with some changes
or
despite the fact that I've not smoked pot for 24 years, I sometimes dream I've smoked it all along and have been hiding it from myself :silly:
Or sometimes I wake up thinking I've missed an exam and have to remind myself that I'm not in school and haven't been for 20 years.
Or
Sometimes I dream that I never quit a job I had in college and am still on the schedule and I am trying to decide whether to go.
I wake up and it takes me a while to convince myself this isn't true.
These are recurrent dreams.
One timers that seem real, well, yeah I have them too.

shortly after Harold and I got married, he was going to take me on my first camping trip. We would be leaving early on a Friday morning. Thursday night we went to bed and I fell asleep with camping on my mind. I dreamed that we were in sleeping bags laying on the side of a highway with our legs out on the driving lane. I actually opened my eyes, but was still asleep and dreaming. I had an old clock radio with a round time face that lit up. That round light in my dream became the headlight on a truck that was coming and was going to run over our legs.
I woke Harold up (really) and said, "We have to move. A truck is coming and it's going to run over our legs". He said, "Well, lets move then". I tried to move but my leg had gotten wrapped in the sheet and I couldn't get it unstuck. I told Harold and he leaned over and was pulling on my leg trying to help me get unstuck. As he was doing this, I woke up. Realizing all of this was because of a dream, I told Harold to stop and go back to sleep because I was just dreaming. He said, "Oh no", and laid back down and went right back to sleep. I got up for a while to calm down before I could go back to sleep.
The next morning at breakfast I told him I was really sorry I woke him and got him involved in my dream. He didn't remember anything about it. He had still been asleep too.
