What sort of gift is good for 0-year olds?
My twin nieces were born at the end of September, which would make them three months old by Christmas. I'd like to get them something, but it seems like they aren't interested in much yet except for sleeping and drinking their bottle, and I have no idea about things like what kind of toys that babies that young should play with.

My mom suggested a savings bond and I was like "WHAT??!! Kids hate savings bonds! When they get older and find out they have one they hate you for it because they know they have money but they can't spend it yet!" That having been said, maybe a small savings bond would be a funny thing to give in addition to something else.

1. Get knitting.
Edited on Sun Nov-25-07 08:56 PM by mwooldri
By the time they're 2 or 3 their 0 year old toys are going to be put away, handed down, thrown out, recycled, or somehow otherwise disposed of.

A knitted outfit for them is something that is going to be cherished and generally kept as a memento of being that young.

Example: my son - we got him a nice baby bouncer for him. My grandmother knitted him a nice outfit and a woollen blanket. We still have the outfit and blanket. The baby bouncer has been gifted down.

Mark.

On Edit: However if you don't knit, crochet or do anything of that ilk then maybe that nice toy that will eventually get handed down might just work. Heck, even a nice bear at Build-A-Bear workshop would work.

8. go practical. I love practical. everyone gives toys
I always need something like onesies or socks, never have enough of them. I love savings bonds too. Right now, the kid doesn't get to ask for stuff, I'm going to enjoy that, and get her the things she needs before she starts getting stuff she wants. Besides, right now, for her, it's all about ripping up the paper and playing in the boxes. She could care less about what is inside them.

12. This is the time to buy the savings bonds.
Attach a small infant toy and call it a day. Your nieces will think it's cool when the bond matures that you gave them something useful.

In a few years they'll really be aware of who gives them what but not now. Save your creativity until then. (spoken as an experienced aunt to a cast of thousands. Okay, maybe just a cast of tens.)

13. My fiance's nephew will be 10 mos old
And he wanted to get him clothing that suited a 10 month old but I said, "why not get him clothing that's for a 1-3 year old?" and he disagreed and since we were home for thanksgiving I asked my mother if that was ok (getting outfits substantially older for his nephew) and she agreed with me and we bought him clothing that he can grow into!

The savings bond is a good idea but I quite like saving something quite solid like clothing.. (I'm rather a pack rat).

The first part of "healthy, wealthy and wise" is healthy.

Presumably, the parents have already thought of this. In that case, I suggest colorful baby-appropriate picture books.

36. I bought them a Nirvana lullaby album for their birthday.
Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 01:09 PM by LoZoccolo
By birthday I mean, the actual day they were born, even though I didn't get a chance to present it until I came up for Thanksgiving.

They do not have an Oasis lullaby album, but I noticed they had a Beatles lullaby album, which there is no other explanation of except that the Beatlist propagandists must have paid off the record company which puts these out:

There is, however, a song that Liam Gallagher wrote for his son named "Little James":

38. Beatrix Potter books. A dear friend gave our daughter the full set of
the small individual books for her first Christmas. We read them over and over to her, she loved them. When she became a young woman and put away her childish things, one of the things she kept was her complete Beatrix Potter set. She was 15 at the time. She still has them.

But you can always ask the mom if there is something special she really needs;...or send a gift card to Target as mentioned in another post.

Babies that age are just greeting the world, in about 6 months they will be all over the place.

Soft cuddly things are wonderful, I also like the gift certificate for photos.
