8. Cool!! Thanks for the newsflash, darlin'.
 Can't wait, we love a good movie with a strong heroine. I haven't read any of the books but MrShine has a buddy of his from work that says in his opinion, the author is even better than JK Rowling and all the Harry Potter books. That's a strong recommendation.

12. The book is cool...
I'm trying not to wreck the experience for anybody, but the film plays it's own brand of awe. Little if any slash, splash & dash in the fight scenes, all imagery w/splendid nuance

Interesting to note that the Catholic League is already up in arms over the "atheism" contained within the work. Interesting further still to see just how many people, or so it would seem, consider asking proper questions, thinking for one's self, free will, and the eternal value of wonderful friends and the importance of keeping one's promises to them to name but a few; to be tenets of atheism

But girl did they ever doll Kidman up in some wonderful wardrobe :hi:

Gypsy Rom, I can say no more :hide:

26. OMG!!!! I'm never reading anything "hip" either!!
 What you said is EXACTLY right. And on the "What are you having for dinner" threads, I'm usually noshing on some blue jello or a spoonful of peanut butter or a handful of Chex Mix. So, that's when I post a really elaborate lie.

B-) :yourock: :loveya:

21. The fundies are apparently going totally batshit crazy over this movie, at least here in OK.
According to my teen daughters, many of their circle of friends'/acquaintances' MySpace and Facebook pages are all up-in-arms about it.

The books somehow managed to stay below the radar of the fundie-whackjobs, and many people were amazed that they continued to do so, especially since the Potter books caused such a furor. That situation has definitely changed now, with the upcoming movie.

And of course, the fundies are all in an uproar about something they haven't even seen or read. What a surprise...

http://culture-watch.blogspot.com/2007/11/golden-compass-internet-buzz.html

We won't be previewing "Golden Compass" because we're scheduled out of rainy Oregon into sunny (we hope) Florida next weekend. Also, I'm just not a big fantasy fan. I ho-hummed my way through an on-demand viewing of "Chronicles of Narnia" during the Thanksgiving weekend.

We did watch "Miracle on 34th Street" with little Natalie Wood and Edmund Gwenn -- now that was a fun movie! Our nine and six year old grandchildren had never seen it, and it's been decades since Grandpa and I watched it, too.

Making peace a priority this holiday season,

Radio Lady

24. they do seem to don't they, indeed what a surprise...
we're clearly not talking Jonathan Livingston Seagull here, nor The Idyll of the White Lotus; even for all their oddities foisted upon the world, it's still just so piecemeal/knee-jerk imo for them to read The Holy Roman Church into a work that alludes to an even more all inclusive form of, so as to say: Nephilim...or; Illuminati, very willing to use virtually every, each & all sign & symbol to attain very specific goals. sad so many only have a passing glimpse of who their eneimies truly are when for all their gnashing of teeth, they never seemed to have slowed Potter down either
