Mucinex WORKS - holy bat crap does it EVER WORK!!! |
|
I've been raging with the plague for about a week now. I got the nasal spray Mucinex. Use that, give yourself about 30-60 minutes - then all the crap in your sinuses will just come pouring out (kinda nasty - don't do it when you're ready to go to bed).
I slept like a baby last night with totally clear sinuses

4. Sounds like you have/had had that awful rhino virus that ripped through my sinuses- |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-04-07 10:13 AM by MrMickeysMom
The way I dealt with it was to open up my totally clogged nasal passage by POURING into it the 12 hour spray with oxymetazoline hydrochloride, Then, I did a sinus rinse up one nasal passage with "NeilMed" (found at your local drug store). Finally, I used a synthetic steroid (by prescription) to reduce the inflammation. The thing with viruses, is that you have to shed them, and so balance naturally occurring immune reactions with ones enabling you to BREATHE.
For over a week, I took 2 Sudafed and 3 ibuprofin (200 mg) almost every 6 hours. After 4 weeks, back to semi-normal, but I still have slightly reactive airways. This virus was one MOTHA of a head cold that went a little further south,
So, drink a lot of water, as the viscosity of mucus increases (95% of mucus is water from your own self) and stay away from irritants, cause it really makes your airways feel "asthmatic" after it "leaves".
My 2 cents, plus, I'm a respiratory therapist, akin to our friend, Mr. Mucus (a constituent of Mr. Hanky, by the way.

16. Did you drink lots of water? |
|
That's a common reason that these types of products aren't as effective... if you did then I'll certainly steer clear of those.

It took a pretty good gulp of water to wash the dang pills down (like I said, they're HUGH!!!1! I'm SERIES!). They just didn't make much difference for me.

I think about all these mucus type products require a good deal of water to help loosen the stuff the medicine's supposed to help you get rid of.

So I'm pretty sure that wasn't the problem. I drink lotsa water anyway. But next time I'll try the nasal spray.

I use Afrin and it works for me.
Try Zicam at the first signs of a cold. That stuff works miracles. I always keep some handy just in case.

Some n-acetyl-cysteine and a neti pot'll do the same thing, too... also highly not recommended for before bed!
Glad you're feeling better! :bounce:
