faux news, Natalie Maines and the West Memphis Three
WTF? faux sure spins shit.

Dixie Chick Urges Donations to Defense Fund for Murderers

"The Dixie Chicks have a new controversy on their hands. Lead singer Natalie Maines is urging people to contribute money to a defense fund for three Arkansas men that she (and many others) believe were wrongly convicted of killing three children in 1993."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,314605,00.html

I guess the three were convicted of the murders, but there is a lot of evidence suggesting the trials weren't fair and possibly a different suspect, but yet faux puts in their headlines that Natalie supports murderers. I don't know if I am coming across correctly about what pisses me off..lol.

5. An inconvenient fact Fox conveniently ignores:
Edited on Tue Dec-04-07 01:23 PM by Rob H.
Two of the parents (Pam Hobbs and John Mark Byers) of the slain boys now also believe the West Memphis Three didn't do it and want to see them given a new trial. Guess that means they're pro-murderer now, too. :sarcasm:

"Fox News. Because Fox Blatant Propaganda is too long for our viewers to remember."

ETA: parents' names.

6. John Mark Byers himself
always seemed suspicious to me. I believe these boys (well, men now) are innocent.

10. Thanks, Chimps...
Very interesting, indeed. I'm curious what the telephone conversations between Byers and Hobbs will reveal. These convictions were based on such flimsy evidence, really not much more than Damien's "gothness" and Jessie's confession, which of course we know anybody -- teenagers or "terrorists" in Guantanamo -- will confess to almost anything to get the aggressive questioning to stop. I hope there will finally be some real justice in this terrible case.

11. The one call I heard didn't say much
There is now a series of videos on You Tube with the police interrogation of Hobbs this past June.

Here's the first part:

I believe there are 9. It's hard to hear but from what I understand there will be better ones soon.

I'm a legal transcriptionist -- I'd have to kill myself if somebody handed me tapes like this to transcribe.

I'll definitely be paying more attention to this case now, though. I had thought things were pretty much at an impasse.

14. Mark Byers and his new wife taped that off their TV
They got a dvd made and are going to redo it.

As for the case, it is really getting interesting. There is a lot of new information and some evidence that is interesting. After testing something like 180 items from the crime scene for DNA, they found none from the WM3.

12. Now THIS is some spin
Overturning convictions is more common these days, thanks to more sophisticated forensics. There are obviously now dozens of stories about murder convictions that have been overturned thanks to DNA testing.
