17. take it from me, I've spent lots of $$$ on things that live in the drawer/cupboard
other than a couple uses a year

I've gotten VERY picky about what takes up cupboard space

but you're not alone, over in C&B that little tool was on quite a few people's 'must have' list for setting up a kitchen

:hi:

22. Ah, but with a sous-vide, you don't boil the water
That's what makes it dangerous for neophytes, I'm tempted to try it, but don't want to poison myself. I already have a vacuum sealer, it was a family gift last Christmas.

And yes, I first learned about it from Hung on Top Chef!

I just thought of it, b/c I just heard Marcel making his BS excuse that his food would have been better if he's had a thermal immersion circulator. :eyes:

19. If you like to make pureed soups and sauces, they're worth it.
Edited on Thu Dec-06-07 07:26 PM by Gormy Cuss
I make cream of vegetable soups all winter and using the immersion blender cuts down on the dishes and gives you a smooth product. I puree some tomato sauces and some cooked winter vegetables the same way. I don't find that it substitutes for another appliance but it does keep me from hauling out the blender of FP all the time.

27. slippers - good choice!
that's two boxes worht of gifts. :D

I'll second the immersion blender - I have a thing sort of like this:
http://braun.factoryoutletstore.com/details/1568-3297/Braun-Blenders-And-Mixers-Braun-MR430HC-WH.html

It's very handy for me, since I usually cook for one. My blender-thingy doesn't really look like that, it looks more like a hand mixer with those sorts of attachments. I like the food processor/chopper attachment - mince an onion in about 3 seconds. Mine has a stick blender (immersion blender, I guess is the correct term) food chopper, mixer blades, and dough hooks. Like some one else said, it's handier than pulling out the Kitchen-Aid when I'm making something for one.

Plus, it could go in several boxes. :bounce:

Do you have a favorite Bath & Bodyworks scent? I like going there for gifts, because they have lots of different things in my sister's favorite scent. Plus she uses it up, so it's a good gift choice over and over and over.

My wife and I were talking about Christmas gifts for each other last night. We both have everything we need and don't have any "wants." But, no doubt the presents will get dug out of the closets and other hidy holes on Christmas morning.
