2. Did you hear the part where he says that they
are popular and that's why they did it? To push the envelope?

Holy cow, what's next? Dressing up as victims of Katrina or Auschwitz? Unreal.

5. Yep, it pretty much boils down to this quote
"It's not that it was funny, it's that we are notorious and infamous in the state college, so we have to do things that push the envelope just for shock value," he said.

That's where we're at these days. Idiots like these do things not to make a point, but just because it causes a stir. We're such a celebrity worshiping culture that anything goes. Kids are taught very early on by the media that if you want to be noticed, you have to be outlandish, even if there's no motive or logic to the outlandishness. They break taboos for the sake of breaking taboos, not because the taboos are restrictive or oppressive.

I think my favorite line was when one of the students who wore the costume was lamenting the students who criticized him as "living in an ivory tower of privilege." Yeah, you got that one right bub. This fool is living in such a tower that he has no concept of human suffering or compassion. I think that the survivors of Virginia Tech or any violence for that matter would be able to teach those idiots a thing or two about living in a isolated world of privilege far removed from the consequences of your actions. Watch your friend get his or her head blown off for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Feel the fear that takes you when you realize that it's all for real and this could be your last moment on Earth when the bullets fly. Then come back and tell me about who's living in an ivory tower of privilege when some geek college kid uses your pain to shock his peers for no other reason than to get attention.

4. Ugh, that's disgusting.
And some of the comments at the bottom of the page are even more disgusting. :puke: I lose more faith in humanity every day. :banghead:

19. Be *very* glad. Some of them are truly horrible.
:puke: There were a LOT of posts blaming and/or mocking the VA Tech shooting victims, and that was just on the first page - I couldn't bring myself to read further. :puke: WTF is wrong with people that makes them think shit like this is okay? Do they have zero humanity? I don't know if I even want to understand why people are like this. :scared:

6. As I said in the GD thread about this...
Not even tshirthell.com did a Virginia Tech shooting shirt.

That's saying something when tshirthell.com (the ones who put out the "Well Hung" shirt to commemorate the execution of Saddam Hussein) has more taste and class than these ass cantaloupes.

http://www.tshirthell.com/hell.shtml WARNING!!! Not for the thin skinned or easily offended! I'm serious.

8. I wish the story could've given the source of the original Facebook photo
As it is, it seems this particular Shock and Outrage Moment was brought to you by the Penn State student who created the protest page on Facebook.

17. I've got a couple of friends here who went to Penn State
and they are beyond appalled at this. I can't imagine the mindset of someone who would think mocking a murder victim was 'funny'.

20. Me neither
although I suspect it's the same mindset that leads them to become high-ranking Republicans later in life. Didn't GWB make fun of prisoners on death row? Just sayin'...

23. I wonder if the idiot in the photo
Would have found it so amusing to be on the Hub lawn back in September of 1996.

I remember that day quite clearly, as a matter of fact.

It's not the kind of incident that makes it onto the front page of the recruitment brochures, but you'd think that current PSU students would have the goddamned sense to recognize that no campus is safe, and mocking a tragedy at one university is a pretty severe insult one's own.

15. On what grounds?
As much as I wouldn't mind seeing it happen, our colleges across the country would be desolate if we could just kick kids out for doing stupid tasteless stuff.

21. I completely agree with you, but according to what I read
today on the interwebs, they can't kick her out. Free speech, no matter who distasteful is protected. Thank God.

22. Then let's take the universities back........
from stupid, un-original, obtuse morons and just let kids and people who will respect the learning experience go.

It's a bloody privilege to go to university, I would have loved to have gone when I was younger.
