1. I hate being in Dire Straits.

AWESOME MUSICIANS.

And while Gen-Y openly takes a leak on the visuals, at the time they were superb and novel. Not to mention expensive... and cool. Still are, even if we can technically do better today.

11. "Sultans of Swing" was cool
but they lost me once they added the keyboard players, and Mark Knopfler's headband got wider than 2".

17. Brothers in arms.

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=k5JkHBC5lDs

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day youll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And youll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
Ive watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

Theres so many different worlds
So many differents suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the suns gone to hell
And the moons riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But its written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
Were fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

19. Mark Knopfler...
...is one of about 3 guitarists that have such a distinctive sound that it's ridiculously easy to recognize. I think that they're great!

28. I've honestly never heard him mimicked
who are the other two that you can recognize? I'm a bit of a musical luddite; Knopfler is the only guitarist that is truly unmistakable to my ear.

27. Possibly my favorite group of all time...
I've seen them twice in concert, and have seem Mark Knopfler solo twice since DS broke up. I think he has plans to tour again in support of his latest CD, and will try to see him again...

36. They made some turkeys of songs but I love them.
They balanced up the turkeys with some rip roaring fantastic songs. My favourites are:

The Sultans of Swing
Down By The Waterline
Portobello Belle
Tunnel of Love
Romeo And Juliet
Money For Nothing
