If I want winter tires on my car, I need to not only buy the tires but also WHEELS...
Apparently there are no winter tires for the size my car takes on the REAR. yes, my front and rear tires are different sizes...

a nice car, or a yuppy car, and I dont want to hear the hell I am going to get because of it, but here goes.
it is a BMW 335i sedan.
brand new, with the sport package which apparently makes it very difficult to find winter tires unless I also buy new wheels.

I kid.
That's odd about the tire thing. Have you looked at TireRack.com?

that was my first stop.
nada, unless I buy new wheels too.
I even called the BMW dealership, same thing. No tires unless I get new wheels too. and the Stealership wants 4 times MORE than tirerack...

4. Yeah, but you gotta get them from Porsche. |

Money probably wouldn't be much of an issue, either.

5. If I could afford the Porsche... |
|
I guess it would not be an issue.
An interesting note to the price issue.
on the Porsche website I "built" a 911 4S and optioned it well, and it cost MORE THAN the 911GT3...
try and figure that one out.

18. Well, the 4s has AWD while the GT3 is rear only. |
|
The GT3 is supposed to be the ultimate normally aspirated, RWD 911. The 4S is normally aspirated as well, but isn't quite as high strung as the 380 horse boxer in the GT3, and it also has a bit of extra weight due to the AWD system. So, after optioning, it doesn't surprise me that a 4s can get up to or exceed the cost of a GT3. It's a much better daily driver than the GT3 is, as the GT3 is extremely stripped to save on weight. The GT3 is a track car, the 4s is a daily driver that also happens to be an excellent sports car.

415hp.
The 4S has either 355 or 381 depending on whether or not you select the $17,000.00 :eyes: performance kit.
edited to add the smiley...

21. That's right, I was thinking of the first gen GT3. |
|
The bulk of the performance differential of the two models comes from the added weight in the 4S. I've seen kits that allow you to convert AWD 911 4S and 911 Turbos to RWD. After removing the drive shaft and differential, it's still not quite as light as the GT3s and such, but it's close.

22. But why would you buy a 4S |
|
just to convert it to RWD when you could easily buy a regular S and save a lot of money...
Some people are weird...

23. I think it's primarily for the 911 Turbo owners. |
|
Because if you want the Turbo drivetrain without the AWD, your only other choice is to get a GT2. I'm guessing that the AWD system on the Turbo and the 4s is almost exactly the same, so the kit will work on both models, so that's who they market it to both owners. Although you're right, it would be pretty stupid for a 4S owner, unless they purchased it and had buyer's remorse.

it is just a bit frustrating that I have to buy wheels as well as tires, just to drive safely in the winter.
