That's right, we should all view the antics of Shakespeare's Sir Toby Belch, WC Fields, Nick and Nora Charles, Elwood P. Dowd, Andy Capp, Dean Martin, Foster Brooks, Otis of Mayberry, John "Bluto" Blutarksy, Dudley Moore's Arthur, Norm from Cheers, Barney Gumble, and Karen Walker with disdain and scorn, not to mention jokes at the expense of the likes of David Hasselhoff and Amy Winehouse, as they are cruel representations of people in the throes of a deadly disease that has afflicted many.

No matter how gut-bustingly hilarious they may seem, these hurtful so-called "jokes" aren't funny--because we at GD said so.

1. Interesting point of view
May I point out that all the characters you mention are fictional. Personally, I've never found real drunks funny - only rather sad.

2. I've watched drunks(or folks who don't know their limit) ruin too many wedding receptions...
Sad quite sad.

3. Try being sober around drunks and then tell us if they're funny.

Maybe being drunk can be funny. But that isn't the same thing.

4. Your post confirms that the portrayal of drunks is funny.
Few could argue that. Some of us know that the reality is not at all what's portrayed.

7. Depends upon whom you're trying to entertain...
...and perhaps on whether the portrayal is as scintillating as those famous examples.

I recall Richard Pryor's portrayal of a heroin addict shooting up as being scary as hell, right after he made me laugh. If you've known an addict who died, or who killed, such humor may not be much fun.

8. It's almost 9pm Eastern. Check GD in another 3 hours.
You'll see how funny being drunk can be.
