My step son was to be deployed to Iraq. He was at training when the parking brake on a Humvee failed. It rolled back, crushing him and another soldier into the front of another Humvee. The other fellow has a broken leg. My kid has torn ligaments and a pinched nerve. Deployment is now very uncertain.
See ... the IS a God! Now I don't have to drop a small block Chevy engine on the kid's foot ...
Time to sacrifice another bottle of John Jameson's in gratitude ...

Oh, I am so glad to hear this!
I remember when you told me about his deployment, and how it was hurting you...
Good news, sweetie...
Stay in touch, OK?
It's been far too long since we've seen you here...

3. Glad he doesn't have to deploy |
|
but I also hope he doesn't suffer the long term issues a pinched nerve can cause.

And you are right, of course. The possible nerve damage is the only serious concern here. Me, I'm just heaving something of a sigh of relief.
When I was a kid in middle GA in the last days of the Vietnam war, it was amazing to me how many father/son hunting accidents there were. It was like fathers were forgetting everything they ever knew about gun safety. It was just freaky how many kids got shot in the foot in 1970 ...

The possible nerve injury is the biggest concern at this moment ... we'll just have to see about that one. The knee got torqued quite a bit and there is some ligament damage. Easily dealt with, but that will take time. Lots of time, I hope.

5. That is wonderful news. |
|
Perhaps the nerve will stay pinched until we are no longer deploying our young people to Iraq or anywhere else. I'm happy for you and your stepson. Cheers! :toast:

they will find any reason to deploy him still.
Believe me.
At best, he has only delayed it for a while.

But this will at least delay things, and if things are delayed long enough ... :)
