You know, when they quit doing 'em!

Aerosmith's last true album was "Done With Mirrors". Everything after that was a pop band called AeroShit. Though at least "Permanent Vacation" and "Pump" had a few tolerable songs each.

Hahahaha! Yeah, I saw 'em summer '86 before they could bombard me with the utter crap they've recorded since. I like the song titles like 'It's Amazing' (that people are buying this crap!) and 'Get a Grip' (PEOPLE!!!)

2. Aerosmith ruined Aerosmith the moment Steven Tyler thought attempting to sing was a good idea. |

4. While I am happy whenever people stop using drugs, I agree - it really ruined their music |
|
when they became sober.
While I utterly and completely disagree with the statement that drugs help one's creativity, I do sometimes wonder if they at least make one more able to sift out the shit that isn't really cool.

10. They definitely sucked afterwards. |
|
I don't think doing drugs should be the preferred way of going into a creative place, but for some people, it's all they know. So when they stopped doing them, they sucked. It probably also helped them to shut out the pressures and keep from being on edge. Also, the time for their style of music, blues-based hard rock and roll, had passed. It was no longer in ascension in the mainstream, but on the decline. They responded by compromising to their new surroundings with pop swill. These two things=suckitude.

13. No, hooking up with Glen Ballard did. |
|
I can't imagine what their thought process was there, hiring the guy that produced Alanis frickin' Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill album. Guess they didn't give a shit about being edgy or rebellious any more.

14. Nah, they had already recorded plenty of fluffy pop before |
|
that happened. At one time, Aerosmith was a legit rock-n-roll band complete with danger, swagger and the goods to back it up. I thank my lucky stars I saw 'em in '86. One of the best concerts I ever saw.

24. I saw them in '73, when their first album came out. |
|
This was before it hit big, though it was big here in Boston. That year, they did concerts in college gyms, and that's where I saw them. It was a great show! I've also seen them a number of times since then, most recently probably in the late '90s. They were still good then, IMHO.

23. I would say that Steven Tyler became cooler after he quit using |
|
but his music did go downhill. But his relationship with Liv blossomed after he quit and he became a much better person from everything I've seen. So I'd say that overall it was a good thing.
