Poll question: When did you think Dennis Miller became a right-winger? |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 10:04 PM by Cascadian
Has anybody seen the new Dennis Miller Show on MSNBC? God. It is awful! What is really sad is that I used to like Dennis, but in the last few years, he just became this right-wing hack. I think he made this "turnaround" after 9/11/01. It must have effected him greatly as it has for many people. What do you think?

1. He had a talk show on HBO back around 1996 or '97... |
|
...and it was pretty damned funny! So for my purposes, Miller became an unfunny right-wing shill some time in the last seven years or so.

2. Speaking of Dennis Miller.... CNN article on him. |
|
Here's an article from the CNN website. It kind of confirms what I think made Dennis turn into a conservative. http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/01/26/tv.dennismiller.ap/John

3. They performed the same brain surgery |

They performed the same brain surgery on Pat Boone when his first career crashed. It's that old "devil at the crossroads" equation I think.

I don't understand the "used to be funny" camp re: Dennis Miller. He has always been horrible from day one. He was the worst host of SNL news ever.

I have always thought he was an insufferably pompous ass. Way too smug for my tastes.

his humor was always good, before. He was kinda like John Stewart, in that he would rag on both sides. I always thought he was funny.
Then I saw his show tonight. Was money that important to him? I don't get it. I am genuinely confused by what I just saw. It wasn't funny, it wasn't that offensive, it was just.... I don't know.
It wasn't political commentary, it wasn't humor. I'm not sure what the hell is was.

trying SO HARD to be a conservative political analyst....and he's not informed enough...It just doesn't work and he looks awkward most of the time...(when he's not being smarmy.)

don't ever mention Dennis Miller as being "kinda like Jon Stewart". That's heresy.

16. they call those "writers" |
|
They use all kinds of talent making the magic that is TV. Ask any of his fairly embarassed former writers what he is like, and they'll say he hasnt changed a whit.

13. That unctuous pomposity |
|
Miller's unctuous pomposity appealed to the original 80's Yuppies. They were winners. They loved him.
