DU Men: What do you do if you're in love with a woman? |
|
Are you straight with her? Or do you dance around the issue until your bravery appears?
And what if you're in love with a woman you can't have?
Curiously,

1. When I'm in love with a woman I can't have I get drunk by myself and listen to melancholy music |
|
The next day if I'm not too hungover I take myself on a long walk or bike ride and ponder things.
Fortunately those days are a thing of the past for me.

When a man loves a woman Can't keep his mind on nothing else He'll trade the world For the good thing he's found If she's bad he can't see it She can do no wrong Turn his back on his best friend If he put her down
When a man loves a woman Spend his very last dime Tryin' to hold on to what he needs He'd give up all his comfort Sleep out in the rain If she said that's the way it ought to be
Well, this man loves a woman I gave you everything I had Tryin' to hold on to your precious love Baby, please don't treat me bad
When a man loves a woman Down deep in his soul She can bring him such misery If she plays him for a fool He's the last one to know Lovin' eyes can't ever see
When a man loves a woman He can do no wrong He can never own some other girl Yes when a man loves a woman I know exactly how he feels 'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're my world
When a man loves a woman.
--So I guess go make an ass out of yourself, at least she'll know--

It happened to me unexpectedly with a colleague visiting from our London office back in October. And she seemed interested then. But for me there was the tabboo of getting involved with someone from work, as well as a little thing called the Atlantic Ocean. Then I saw here again last week. However the night before I was thinking so hard that I'd blow it, that I didn't get much sleep. Thus I was so knackered, and not very congenial, that I blew it. Self-fulfilling prophecy. Of course she was only in the office for a day, jet lagged and busy with a deadline.
Oh well, it was nice to feel human again for a short spell.

Or, at least keep it shut until they tell you first.
Telling someone that you love them, especially someone that you can't have, never changes anyone's mind. That's shit for movies and romance novels.

9. Of which, "The Graduate" must surely top the list. |

Mind you, seeing that movie while tripping on acid... it'd put "2001: A Space Odyssey" to shame...

you'll get over it in time. Don't tell her, unless you want to look pathetic. If you really love a woman you can't have, I would settle for friendship if you can control yourself, or avoid her if you can't. I wouldn't tell her, unless the "can't have" situation changes.

16. Well, here is what I did... |
|
I have known my GF for YEARS. We met while we were both undergrads at the University of Michigan. We had many mutual friends that all thought we should be together. We were friends for many years, good friends infact. We would go out to dinner, laugh and have a great time. We would go to parties together, but never as a "couple." We were very close, we had agreed to be friends forever once over a great bottle of wine. We both had other flings through college that never really went anywhere.
But, to be honest, I was in Love the second I saw her. She is SOOO beautiful, sweet, kind, and gentle, etc.. I think she is perfect. There are not enough superlatives in my vocabulary to let me accurately describe her. LOL, anyway.
it took me YEARS to get up the courage to talk about more than a friendship. To put it this way, everyone knew it was inevitable, or that it should be, but me...
And now, I am going to ask her to marry me next week...

17. I have never fallen in love with someone who didn't see it coming. |
|
I have not ever allowed myself to fall in love with a woman I 'can't have'; though I have 'had' women I shouldn't have.
I don't know; I think that one is able to control with whom and when they fall in love.
It bothers my wife sometimes that I can control my love, but I have always looked at the big life picture and lack of availability is an external factor that is a deal breaker for me. g.
