So I had this desire for a cuddly animal. Duke is kind of stand-offish
Edited on Thu Dec-27-07 12:34 AM by Maraya1969
and Skutch lets me pet him for about 30 seconds at a pop. I started looking at rescue groups again to find another pet.

Anyway a few days ago my neighbor came over and said, "Have you seen this cat, (who was following right behind her)? She looks sick." And indeed she looked like she was flea infested and it caused sores on her and clumps of hair to fall out. I put some Advantage on her and let her back out.

A few hours later my house mate knocked on my door and said, "Can you do something about this cat I feel so bad for it. Then I realized it really needed help and I took it in and called the vet and made an appointment. Then I combed her hair, (which she loved), cut her toenails and put antibiotic cream on her eyes. (Her eyes cleared up real quick)

So she is all over me and wants me to pet her and cuddle with her all the time. She walks on my keyboard and sleeps in my bed.

And then I realized that even though I did not recognize it at first my cuddly animal was sent to me just like I wanted .

Here she is. I can't figure out a name yet.

EDIT to add that you can't see the clumps of hair missing in the picture but they are there. And her tail is real thin at the base where the hair had fallen out. Poor little thing

1. What a sweetheart!
I'm so glad you took her in! Yes, you needed a cuddling, loving kitten and she showed up, needing your help and willing to give you lots of love back.

What kinds of names do you like? She could be Angela; she looks like an angel. ;-)

She looks a LOT like one of my girls, Clarisse (not too happy about the holiday finery around her neck):

2. Wow they do look alike! Angela is a nice name. Maybe Angel. I've never had so much trouble
naming a pet. Then again most of my pets came with names.

6. Or, those paws are certainly 'kneading dough' - she
could be a Martha!

I usually just watched our cats for a few days, and then tried out a few names to see what stuck (and what they seemed to like).

She's such a little sweetie pie. I guess the vet gave her the all-clear, health-wise?

3. I think Mojo would be a great name,
cuz it's kind of magic that she showede up offering the snuggly affection you were wishing for. (Beautiful kitty-girl! :) )

7. My kitty soul mate was named Smudge. She was my guardian angel
and lived to a ripe old age. Pretty much raised my daughter with me, saw me through the divorce from hell, a very difficult depression and rebuilding my life. She passed just after Havocdad & I met. I swear she KNEW I was in good hands with him and she could go to her rest.

She was the cat I had always wanted.

Smudge is a special cat name.

9. You asked and the fates answered. It is a special kind of grace.
The hair loss is probably from allergy reaction to the fleas and not just infection.

My Smudge had that reaction once when the old dog brought home fleas. Poor cat. Got rid of the fleas fast, but the allergic reaction/damage took a while and some steroids.

Vet was trying to figure how to get her to stop fussing with the sore spots without the obstrusive collar as she was a VERY small cat. Since she would do anything for me, I made some soft cotton knit body suits for her and willed her to leave them on. She had one for each day so they were clean and dry. She healed up fast. I even made little hats as a lark and she put up with those too, just because she was so sweet and wanted to please me. The hats just cracked everyone up, but she didn't mind.

She lived to nearly 21 and got me through some horrible things.

The fates brought you a special cat to love and be loved by. Cherish the blessing. And thanks for taking in a sweet animal in need.

12. OMG! She looks almost exactly like our cat!
Ours is a neutered male named Dorian Gray, but we thought he was a girl at first and called him Annabel Lee for the first 2 weeks he was home, lol.

Here's a pic of Dori, all grown up now of course:

13. Miracle
How often do you get exactly what you wish for? Miracle would be a good name. Or Precious. Or Sweetie.

14. for the new family member....
Dear God, you have given us care over all living things; protect and bless the animals who give us companionship and delight, make us their true friends and worthy companions. Amen.

Dear God, protect and bless all beings that breathe, keep all evil from them, and let them sleep in peace. Amen.
--Albert Schweitzer, "Memoirs of Childhood and Youth"

Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.
--Franciscan prayer

Kitty, may you be blessed in the name of the Holy One who created you, and may you and Maraya1969 enjoy life together and care for one another in peace.
amen
