I got my Learner's Permit!

I am learning how to drive!

I'm 39 years old. I have been battling car-phobia my whole life. But I am married and living in the suburbs now. I walk, or take the bus or train most places. But it's a strain on my husband being the only driver in the house--more so now that we live where one can't just run across the street to the 24-hour bodega anytime one needs anything at all.

So I finally got my permit, and I actually drove around in circles in an abandoned parking lot the other day. I also pumped gas for the first time in my life.

It was all truly horrifying. I had a major endorphin rush after and I felt like I just smoked a major hog leg. But I did it, and each time it will get easier.

My husband thinks it will be 2 years before I'm ready to get my license. I think I can do it in 8 months.

Then my husband is going to buy me one of these:

Invest in lessons from a competent professional instructor. Paying somebody who gives calm instruction to teach me was one of the smartest things I ever did.

I don't think you can take it on the highway. It's just for getting to and fronm the train station and grocery store.
