I hope its not appendicitis
My son and his girlfriend are down visiting. His girlfriend starting feeling sick last night. No fever but a very painful lower abdomen and a little vomiting. We're getting ready to take her to the hospital. Contemplating an operation when your far from home is not a happy feeling.

2. Thanks
She said she's not ready to go to the hospital. Thinks its food related. I'll give her an hour or two and see if anything is happening. If she hasn't passed anything by then I'm draggin her to the ER.

3. My dear seemunkee...
I would take her NOW...

Sure sounds like it to me...

A ruptured appendix is no joke...

Much harder to get well from ...

Tell her, and go!

:scared:

4. She's talking to her mom and dad
I'll back off a little and let them make the call. Its not localized in the appendix area.
Heatpad and gas-X seem to be helping a little

5. We thought it was appendicitis with Nicole...
It ended up being a severe infection that ravaged her body. Please encourage her parents to encourage her to go to the hospital.

6. I'll go down and check on her.
I was glad to hear that Nicole made it home for the holiday. Have her stitches healed and is she up and about?

7. She still has the staple in and is moving *slowly* but she is doing
better everyday. Just yesterday, she got into a fight with her brother. And I was happy for the first time because it means she is getting better. Thank you so much.

Also, with your son's girlfriend, it could be a cyst. They can cause that type of pain. If the pain hits the right upper quadrant (below the ribcage) it is a sign of an infection from a ruptured cyst.

8. FWIW, here's the Merck Manual on nausea and vomiting
http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec02/ch007/ch007g.html As it's a searchable online version, you can in turn check any of the suggestions in the article.

9. Here was my appendicitis experience (for comparison):
Granted this doesn't mean her symptoms would be identical:

1. Severe nausea, but dry-heaving rather than vomiting
2. Urgency to have bowel movement, with little success
3. Horrible pain...I couldn't walk upright but instead had to walk bent over at a 90 degree angle
4. Gas-X did help a little, but not a lot and not for long
5. When I got to the hospital, they did a little test on me: The doc pushed down firmly on the left side of my abdomen...which sent the right side into twice as much pain (your appendix is on the right). This helped him determine that it really was my appendix (though other tests were also run).

Good luck and I hope she feels better soon!
