Traditional Southwestern Native American Wedding Vase.
Alison and I are getting married on the 21st of march. This will be my first trip down the aisle and Ali's second. We will be married outdoors on the bluff above the ocean in Palos Verde and have secured the talented photography services of Miss CaliforniaPeggy so the lounge will also be in attendance.

We found a simple pinion pitch glazed wedding vase with a Horned Toad, and Yucca plant motif. Both are important to the Apache and we thought it the best choice for our wedding.

2. Aw I love it...
Congratulations!

That vase is so great... I love that it somewhat resembles a human heart.

6. Wow, it does.
I did not notice that. Neat coincidence, the wedding vase is an old S.W. Pueblo design predating the introduction of the "heart" symbol.

3. My dear puerco-bellies!
What a beautiful vase!

I'm so ignorant about these things...

Does this play a part in the wedding?

And let me say again, how thrilled and honored I am to be your photographer!

I will do my very best for you, and your bride, and everyone else who is involved!

Biggo congrats, and my wish for many happy years to you both!

8. A wedding ceremony vase is used to symbolize the joining of two people.
At first the Bride and Groom drink from each side then sip at the same time Then groom and all males drink from one side and the bride and all females drink from the other side. The vase is filled with "medicine water".

4. How very lovely...
I have always loved these wedding vases, though I don't know why exactly. They really do speak to me.

I wish you and your beloved only the best.

9. We have looked at tons of them.
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 06:41 PM by puerco-bellies
Most were very pretty, intricate, and colorful. We came across this one and it was the most simple but for some reason really resonated with us.

Edited to correct tense.

17. Thanks.
It's not so much of a toast, more like a part of the ceremony. Like the exchanging of rings.

27. Not an artifact, but not new. I purchased it at a post that sold museum
quality Native American crafts, mainly Navajo, some Zuni. Many of the crafts are becoming lost arts, but I don't have to tell you that. That's why I admire the craftwork that you do.
