I know you need a land line to order movies and PPV , But, suppose you don't care about that.

1. I think there is a way to hook up to a wireless network
I may be completely talking out of my ass though.

2. I don't know...
I never hook mine up to the land line, but it still works somewhat reliably.

3. No you don't need one ... I only have a cell phone.
I have Direct TV and the cord is hooked into an out of service phone line but I don't use it as a land line. And everything works fine.

4. I don't think you do.
The PPV is the only reason for the phone line. At least that was the case with Bell ExpressVu up here when I had that.

5. You'll need a land line to call and cancel
when you decide it sucks.... :)

Just kidding... I've never had Direct, but Dish charges an extra 5 per month if you don't have it hooked up to a phone line (protection against putting other receivers on your account that are not at your home)

You can call and order PPV - its only a hassle if you do it constantly... for the once every few months I did it, calling in to order was no problem.

6. Yeah, you can
if you don't want to do PPV or Tivo, it works just as well from the Sat.

And the only reason I have my land line still is for the Tivo.

I have had direct for about two years and I haven't had any problems.
