Depressed/in bed/not doing anything/not planning on doing anything.
Hi guys. I'm in a bad slump (this happens now and then) and am feeling really pessimistic. I have an appointment set up with my doctor & my STBE says he'll help me and the kids out when he gets back this weekend so I'm not entirely screwed. But in the meantime I've been sleeping for much of the day, not showering, you get the picture. So, tell me something cheerful or happy that's happened to you lately, because that will make me more cheerful and happier. Please?

I'll start: I had a gruesome day yesterday, but when my kids came home they snuggled in bed with me and brought me tea and cookies, and my littlest guy read Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax" to me. It was really nice.

1. well....
it's nice and warm outside. the snow is melting

and a new year brings new opportunities, right?

I've been where you are. My words of wisdom are this.... go with it. You very obviously know to ask for medical help when you need it, so there's nothing to worry about there.

If you need this kind of recuperation, then indulge in it. And keep surrounding yourself w/ the kids, who apparently know EXACTLY what to do right now. They love ya.

We are supposed to get to 57 degrees today but it's overcast. It's the January thaw and I like it. :hi:

and it's not so much "warm" but "warm compared to what average is for this time of year"

4. I had my first 'real' conversation with my son yesterday.
ie we had our real first back and forth that was more than him copying what I said or merely him pointing and something and saying 'whatisdat?'

Here's how it went:

Me:'What does a dinosaur say?'
Kiddo: 'ROOOOAAAR!'
(I'm surprised at the conviction with which he replied so I decide to ask another question)
Me:'Ok, what does a puppy say?'
Kiddo: 'WOOF!'
Me:'What does a sheep say?'
Kiddo: 'Baaaa!'
Me:'What does a horse say?'
Kiddo: 'pfpfpfpfpfpf' (He thinks this is correct.)
Me:'Ok smart guy, what does a cat say?' (He had never actually made the cat noise yet)
Kiddo: 'Mreoooow!'
(I'm amazed at this point)
Me:'One more. It's a tough one: what does baby say?'
(he stops to think about this for a second and then)
Kiddo: 'Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' (and attacks me and we fall into a pile and wrestle for a bit)

:D

6. Awww, that made me laugh out loud.
Your son's a genius! (pfpfpfpfpf) So cute!

When my daughter was an infant we lived in Brooksville, Me, in an old farmhouse. Our sunporch was perpetually filled with flies, dead and alive, so her first complete sentence was "Yukky flies!" It cracked me up at the time.

7. Oh Crim Son

Is it nice enough to go for a walk? That helps me when I am in a down mood. Maybe when the kids go to school you can go for a walk, exercise is good for you too. It will get the feel good endorphins running in your body. It may just change your day!

9. Hi jasonc
It is rainy but very warm for winter in Maine - about 45 degrees right now. I was thinking of doing that but I'd require a shower and clean clothes and *somebody* hasn't been doing laundry lately. I was exercising right after Christmas when my resolve to move just vanished... but it's very nice to see you here. I'll seriously consider the walk because you're right, endorphins are my friend. :loveya:

12. I'm sorry you've got the blues
I concur with the walk recommendation; once you force yourself out to do it you feel so much better.

I don't know if this will make you more cheerful or happier but it did me; my SO gave me a dozen roses Sunday for no reason. Very deep pink, almost purple. They're beautiful.

It's very unlike him so I was thrilled!

Feel better....:7

16. Here's something hopeful, crim son:
It's a Truffula seed, the very last of the Truffula seeds
And Truffula trees are what everyone needs
Plant a new Truffula, treat it with care
Give it clean water and feed it fresh air
Grow a forest, protect it from axes that hack,
Then the Lorax, and all of his friends
May come back...

I'm sorry you're depressed, sweetie. I know what you're going through. When my wife was going through her divorce from her first husband, she used to sleep all the time, not showering and stuff like you described. I used to have to drag her bodily out of bed and get her dressed and ready to go to work. She doesn't suffer depression so much anymore, but it breaks my heart thinking back to those days. Get better soon!

20. Isn't "The Lorax" wonderful?
That and "The Giving Tree" are two of my favorite stories. And the ending is hopeful, especially when I think that it's the Onceler who has saved the seed and is hoping to reverse the horror he created. Imagine the world's polluters doing the same.

Your wife was fortunate to have you there to help her. I have people to help me too, if I'd ask like I'm doing here in relative anonymity. Thank you for being there, Aristus. :pals:

18. I started seeing someone
a couple of weeks ago. Nothing serious, but it is nice to share intimate conversation and affection after being alone for so long. (I'm divorced to BTW, so I know where you are) In fact, I think this may be the start of a more active phase for me in that dept. It might or might not lead to a LTR, but I think the experiences will have been worth it.

Believe me, I have days where being in bed would be a good option. but I try to get up and do something every day, even if it's go to the post office. Just getting out of the house for a short errand changes my perspective. I have to, I'm alone w/o even kids to distract me.

Do you like music? I really enjoy listening Music as a form of therapy/stress relief. My iPod is my constant companion and I have different playlists labeled for moods I want to feel.

If you're feeling sad, just go with it, then leave it when you are ready.

22. I know my divorce is the right thing. The husband has made a huge
effort to change for the kids' sake, and we are all strangely happier while at the same time there are lonely moments and regrets. It's true that the kids keep me from absolute despair: I can't let them see that.

My iPod. What a good idea. I haven't charged it in ages but it might make a walk more interesting/palatable. Yeah, that's the ticket :)

I get in these blue funks myself. One thing you can do is take a nice long hot shower. Then get a bunch of caffeine. May help, may just get you clean and hyper. But it helps me so take it for what it is worth.

39. Sorry you're bummin' today. It'll pass, give it time...
I'm happy to report I'm back on the fitness, health and well-being track again...after basically blowing it through the fall. I'm overweight and outa shape, but I'm re-committing and am determined to get my ass back in gear by my 44th bd in March. I'm back at the gym and will start riding my bike again when the rain stops. I'm registered to ride in the Solvang Century (100 miles in a day) on March 8th, so that's part of my motivation as well.

I sometimes forget how much better and happier I fee when I regularly exercise. It's truly critical for me to have that outlet of strenuous exertion and sweat. Makes ALL the difference in my state of mind and spiritual well-being, as well.

So, I found my "happy place" today at the gym while on the stairmaster, sweating away to my pounding iPod music. :D

:hi:
