What would make a good musical? |
|
I have two ideas.
First, and I'm shocked it's never been tried successfully, is Sherlock Holmes. I can see a huge production made of it. You've got the Baker Street Irregulars as a chorus, Mrs. Hudson could have a great song, and Watson is the perfect musical second-man.
The other is "Heathers". It would be a great musical.

1. Those are both great ideas. |
|
I'm also surprised that Sherlock Holmes hasn't been made into a musical. For the reasons you stated. I'd love to see the set design of late 19th Century London. And with Moriarty, you have a great villainous foil.
Another idea..."Gone with the Wind"

3. I can picture a very Gilbert & Sullivan-esque musical number in there sung by Holmes... |
|
something where he just rattles on through his explanation of his deduction and it just flies by at 90 words a minute. :P

I think there could be some really cool duets and dance numbers with Death and the Von Sydow character. They would be in Swedish and kind of lugubrious, but that's OK. There isn't nearly enough lugubriousness in musicals these days. Too damn cheerful.

"Pygmalion" was a rather successful musical under the name "My Fair Lady", and "Taming of the Shrew" as "Kiss Me, Kate". Unless you were putting me on, in which case I say :P
