We have been moving the office and switching the kids rooms. While moving the office a couple of months ago Ali's son finds a old ring and asked if he could wear it. Ali tells him sure and since then we have been picking it up off the dining room table, computer desk, and floor numerous times. Once more it has been sitting on the coffee table in the "new" family room for over a week. I picked it up along with the usual flotsam and was about to toss it in the trash and realized it looked funny.
It is a heavy ring with kind of a art deco, cube design that Ali remembers from her childhood. I looked inside the shank and it was marked 14k. I took it out to my bench and gave it a light buff and eureka it really is gold, and over half an ounce. Market value is over $225 right now. We had assumed it was brass even though the kid mentioned that it was gold when he started wearing it.
Wow, almost tossed it in the trash.
Edited to reflect the accurate market value

Wow, what a great story!
What are you going to do with it?
You could melt it down, and....um, well, maybe not...:yoiks:
Nice save!
For both of us, lol!

We are thinking of taking it to a precious metal refinery for credit towards 18k casting grain for our wedding rings. This will cut the cost in half :applause:

4. Some how I don't think I can get Alison to sign off on it. |

Hmm, what would happen if I ask Ali if I can "grill up" instead of making our wedding rings. :hide:
